Subject to formal establishment a vacancy will arise for a OF5 to serve as Deputy Senior Security Adviser MSHQ at Main Building on Full Time Reserve Service (FTRS) Limited Commitment (LC) Terms and Conditions of Service (TaCoS) with an initial proposed start date of April 2026 for 36 Months.
Working directly to the Military Strategic Headquarters (MSHQ) Senior Security Advisor (SSyA) this post works closely with the Military Command PSyAs with a particular focus on security risk management and driving an improvement in understanding of the security risk position. A critical responsibility is of this post is to establish an appropriate security baseline and support the Military Command PSyAs in conducting appropriate security assurance against the physical cyber and personnel security and resilience positions. This post will establish the annual assurance position of all Commands and develop the overall MSHQ assurance position drafting a report as appropriate for CDS and the CSO. The Deputy SSyA is a security subject matter expert and will routinely interface with DSR and CyDR as well as Military Command security staff. This is an exciting opportunity at the heart of Defence with significant exposure to senior decision makers across the Defence Areas. It also facilitates appropriate security focused Continuing Personal Development.
Unit Function:
MSHQ Central Pillar. The Central Pillar coordinates the supporting functions and governance over the Military Commands.
Position Role:
The Deputy Senior Security Advisor (Dep SSyA) is responsible for supporting the SSyA and provides resilience in SME staff coverage.
Responsibilities:
- The Dep SSyA responsibilities mirror the SSyA to maintain the MSHQs Security Operating Model and security or resilience policies.

- Ensure the provision of security and resilience advice to CDS VCDS and the operational CoC including advice on general security and threat matters.
|
- Operationalisation of security policy and direction on protective security and resilience to the MSHQ GDN and Military Commands.
|
- Support to SSyA and Military Commands in delivering security risk management and assurance activity.
|
|
- Manage 1st line security assurance (LSA)of MSHQ 2LSA of the Mil Comds and 3LSA of GDN and DCI. Draft the CDS security AAR.
|
- Provide SME advice to MSOC for operational tasking working with PSyAs and GDN as required.
|
- Producing CDS security risk management policy and providing SME advice on the management of security risks across the command.
