Purpose
The Philanthropy Consultant is a client-facing charitable-planning business development role for AqueductFoundation (Aqueduct) within Canadian Wealth Management. Aqueduct Foundation is a leading registeredcharity managed by Scotia Wealth Management that facilitates the personal philanthropy of high-net worth(HNW) and ultra-high-net worth (UHNW) clients through donor advised and legacy fund. The PhilanthropyConsultant will develop new philanthropic donors/clients from internal and external sources (including lawyersand accountants) as well as deepen existing client relationships by providing customized needs-drivensolutions and integrated lifetime and estate philanthropic plans.
Accountabilities
Develops and onboards new business to Aqueduct Foundation by:
Fostering relationships with external sources of business through Centers of Influence lawyers accountants family offices and other professionals to promote Aqueduct services.
Developing qualified Aqueduct business through Scotia Wealth Advisors Advanced Planning Services and Global Family Office.
Providing recommendations related to philanthropy to high net worth (HNW) and ultra-high net worth (UHNW) clients and liaising with the clients lawyer accountant and other external advisorswhere required;
Working directly with existing Aqueduct donors their Scotia Wealth Advisors and external advisors to create customized plans involving Aqueduct that integrate lifetime and estate giving
and consider tax legal and philanthropic considerations.
Working with Aqueduct relationship managers to identify appropriate donors/clients to engage in more in-depth lifetime and estate philanthropic planning.
Providing second-line philanthropic planning support to Scotiabank & Scotia Wealth Management advisors to meet with UHNW and HNW clients and prospects creating a positive experience forthe client and the advisor adding value by providing philanthropic solutions as well as otherWealth opportunities.
Managing complex property donations from HNW/UHNW donor/clients for the Aqueduct gift acceptance process in compliance with Aqueduct policies and processes and in coordination withappropriate Aqueduct staff members and governance committees.
Driving increased COI and Scotia Wealth advisor engagement within your defined region through the delivery of educational sessions and one-on-one interactions that help advisors incorporatephilanthropic planning and solutions into their client relationships.
Maintaining records of each engagement updating their statuses throughout the lifecycle and completing all necessary documentation to open accounts and finalize the business.
Delivers philanthropic services as part of the Total Wealth offer and planning process by:
Partnering with other specialists such as Estate and Trust Consultants Financial PlannersGlobal Family Office Insurance Consultants and members of the Advanced Planning team to
identify opportunities and develop complementary recommendations.
Working with Aqueduct Foundations board of directors and suppliers as required.
Serving as a SME for philanthropy and Aqueduct.
Contributes to Scotia Wealth Managements commitment to maintain mutually beneficial partnerships
through reciprocal activities by:
Identifying UHNW and HNW clients for referrals to all Scotia Wealth Management business lines;
Facilitating introductions to various partners within Wealth Management and in other parts of thebank (Retail Commercial GBM etc.);
Following up with those partners to determine the outcomes of those introductions andengagements.
Contributes to the effective functioning of the team by:
Supporting Scotia Wealth Management offices with philanthropic expertise and staying currenton industry developments;
Participating actively in team learning development activities and team performance objectives;
Coaching and mentoring Aqueduct and Scotia Wealth Management team members;
Actively participating and contributing to touch bases and team meetings;
Encouraging the generation of new ideas and approaches;
Actively share knowledge and experience to enhance the development of all team members.
Champions a client-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bankrelationships systems and knowledge.
Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Banks risk culture and the relevant riskappetite statement and limits.
Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respectiveareas in accordance with Scotiabanks Values its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principleswhile ensuring the adequacy adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational compliance AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
The following education and experience will prepare candidates for the role:
Background in charitable gift planning and philanthropy or relevant experience in estates trustsart or advanced financial planning.
Strong experience working with UHNW and HNW clients and their advisors
Knowledge and technical proficiency related to wealth and estate planning strategies such astax charity law art estate planning and business succession
Knowledge of charitable sector and philanthropic community.
Completion of a post-secondary education
Member of the Canadian Association of Gift Planners would be desirable
Professional accreditation such as MFA-P would be desirable
Excellent relationship-building skills with financial professionals and COIs.
Knowledge of complex gift structures including real estate private company shares art andother non-cash assets.
Exceptional communication presentation and interpersonal skills.
