Assists pipefitters in the installation maintenance and repair of water mains and pipelines; and performs other related duties as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This is the entry level class in the Water Service series. This class is distinguished by the performance of a variety of manual and semi-skilled tasks in assisting skilled pipefitters in the installation maintenance and repair of water mains pipelines and appurtenances.
The following are examples of duties and are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in this class. The omission of specific duties statements does not preclude management from assigning such duties if such duties are a logical assignment for the position.
Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school and one year of experience in assisting a skilled pipefitter or plumber in the installation of water or sewer mains lines and appurtenances.
License Requirement: Possession of a valid motor vehicle operators license (Type 3).
As applicable to specific positions the possession of a valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) a current State Department of Transportation Medical Examiners Certificate and a Hazardous Material endorsement prior to the completion of probation.
Knowledge of: practices tools and materials used in the pipefitting trade; methods of caring for mechanical tools; and work safety practices.
Ability to: operate pipefitting tools and equipment; do mechanical work; perform manual work; understand and follow oral and written instructions; perform arithmetic computations; read and understand simple construction drawings.
Health and Physical Condition:
Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for performance of the duties.

The above examination is being given on an open-competitive basis to establish an eligible list which shall be effective for not more than one year unless extended by the Director of Personnel Services.

Pre-Employment/Post-Offer Drug Screening Test: All applicants who will enter a safety sensitive position or certain designated categories that the Personnel Services Director has established or who are required by law to be drug tested must pass a pre-employment/post-offer drug screening test as a condition of employment. There is no retesting or re-evaluation process. Cost for the drug screening test shall be borne by the County of Maui.
