Job Summary

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled maintenance repair and facility support services to ensure the safe efficient and compliant operation of a Tribal 638 health clinic. This role supports patient care areas administrative offices equipment and grounds by conducting preventive maintenance responding to work orders and assisting with facility upkeep in accordance with tribal federal and healthcare regulatory standards while respecting cultural values and community needs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on facility systems and components including HVAC plumbing electrical lighting carpentry doors locks flooring and general building systems.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests safety concerns and emergency repair needs to minimize disruption to patient care and clinic operations.
  • Conduct regular inspections of patient care areas administrative spaces mechanical rooms storage areas and exterior grounds to identify maintenance needs safety hazards and compliance issues.
  • Support infection control and healthcare safety standards by ensuring maintenance activities are performed in compliance with clinic and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with maintaining and monitoring emergency and life-safety systems including fire alarms fire suppression systems generators and backup power.
  • Maintain clinic grounds and exterior areas including snow removal seasonal tasks and coordination of landscaping or exterior services.
  • Install repair or assist with fixtures furniture shelving equipment and minor construction or remodeling projects.
  • Coordinate with vendors contractors and inspectors; monitor onsite work to ensure quality safety and compliance.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs work orders inspection records and inventories of tools supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure safe handling storage and use of tools chemicals and materials.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness activities safety drills and facility compliance audits.
  • Support sustainability energy efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives as applicable.
  • Follow all clinic Tribal safety and confidentiality policies including HIPAA.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support clinic operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in facilities maintenance building operations construction or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of general maintenance practices including basic HVAC plumbing electrical and carpentry systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders manuals diagrams and safety instructions.
  • Valid drivers license.
  • Ability to pass background and credentialing requirements applicable to healthcare and Tribal settings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a healthcare facility Tribal organization or 638 health system.
  • Certification or formal training in one or more trades (HVAC electrical plumbing carpentry or facilities maintenance).
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Knowledge of healthcare and life-safety standards (CMS IHS OSHA NFPA TJC or similar).
  • Familiarity with maintenance management or work order software systems.
  • Knowledge of Tribal culture values and community-based service delivery.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple work orders effectively.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills when interacting with staff patients and vendors.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools power tools ladders and maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism discretion and confidentiality at all times.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift carry push or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent standing walking bending kneeling and climbing ladders.
  • Ability to work in mechanical rooms crawl spaces attics and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions.

Preference will be given to qualified Eastern Shoshone tribal members then other qualified federally recognized Indian tribal members and then other qualified candidates.
