High School Diploma or GED
Associates degree from an accredited college or technical college graduate preferred
Network cabling certification or ability to become certified.
Experience
Two years of successful experience with network or telephone (low-voltage) cabling and
installation.
Experience programming troubleshooting or administering an organizations telephone
system preferred.
PC troubleshooting experience preferred.
POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE
This is a specialized technician with demonstrated technical skills and a high-level of work or educational experience
regarding telecommunications systems particularly the physical cabling. Technician will be responsible for physical
installation and troubleshooting of permanently-installed technology hardware such as flat-screen monitors interactive
white boards and associated cabling. Technician will be responsible for learning basic PC software installation and
troubleshooting procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Instructional Management
1. Assist Director of Infrastructure and Data Operations with installing maintaining and troubleshooting
network and telephone cabling.
2. Assist the Director of Infrastructure and Data Operations with installation and maintenance of network time
clock telephone and other hardware.
3. Assist the Director of Infrastructure and Data Operations with installation and maintenance of other mounted
or installed infrastructure or classroom technology hardware as needed.
4. Assist with other Computer Services departmental responsibilities as needed.
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
1. Perform such other duties as may be assigned or as may be necessary by the Director of Infrastructure and
Data Operations.
Data Communications
1. Assist with maintenance and installation of network communications infrastructure and equipment.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. Knowledge of wiring techniques including the installation of conduit and fiber duct for cabling purposes.
2. Knowledge of electrical code to provide for proper installation of network cabling in existing and new
facilities.
3. Knowledge or experience with electronic trouble-shooting procedures in regards to verifying integrity of
wiring. Familiar with electronic test equipment i.e. network testers VOM tracers etc.
4. Must be capable of overseeing the work of 1 to 5 cable installers design and planning of network installation
and reporting on status of projects to Supervisor.
5. Knowledge of building construction and structural components to ascertain appropriate installation in regard
to maintaining integrity of facilities and building esthetics.
6. Able to distinguish between various colors.

1. Heavy lifting and carrying 45 lbs. on a regular basis and 100 lbs. on a limited basis
2. Reaching above shoulders
3. Use of fingers arms and legs
4. Repeated bending

6. Working in small confined spaces
7. Regular attendance required.

2. Power tools i.e. saws all hammer drill etc.
3. Conduit benders
4. Punch-down tools i.e. RJ-45 crimpers etc.
5. MISD motor vehicles i.e. van pickup etc.
6. Power & manually operated personnel lift
7. Electronic test equipment VOM etc.
8. Ladders platforms scaffolds
9. Respirators and other safety equipment
