Job Summary

Assistant Dean of Students and Title IX Coordinator
Coe College seeks qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Dean of Students and Title IX Coordinator. This role is responsible for the administration and oversight of the college student conduct process including the student sexual misconduct process and serve as the colleges Title IX Coordinator. This position is also the leader of the efforts to create a community at Coe that promotes nurtures and maintains positive behavior actions and conditions necessary for a vibrant student life and campus experience. The Assistant Dean of Students and Title IX Coordinator will lead the training and development of systems that foster student centered development and accountability and will serve as a member of the Student Life leadership team which strives to create a best-in-class outside-of-the-classroom culture from the point of enrollment through graduation. The Assistant Dean also directs crisis response on an on-call duty rotation.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Student Conduct
  • Directs the implementation and evaluation of the colleges Student Code of Conduct and all policies procedures and prevention efforts pertaining to student behavior.
    • Maintain conduct records and software related to conduct process and outcomes.
  • Conducts ongoing reviews of the Student Code of Conduct involving key campus constituencies including faculty staff and students.
  • Serves as the primary hearing officer for non-academic administrative student conduct cases and institutional behavioral concerns.
    • Directs the hearing board consisting of faculty staff and student members and provides comprehensive training and ongoing development opportunities
  • Improve student conduct process by developing Student Conduct process expertise among other Student Life staff with the eventual goal of conduct cases to appropriate staff members.
  • Collaborates with residence life to ensure consistent application of the Student Code of Conduct including case management sanction follow-up and appropriate interventions.
  • Assist with completing Clery Act and other compliance based reporting related to conduct and safety on a timely basis.
Title IX
  • Leads the review investigation and resolution of all reports of sexual discrimination and sexual misconduct for faculty staff and students.
  • Has a deep knowledge and understanding of Title IX laws and campus policies on sex discrimination and sexual misconduct.
  • Assists in the investigation management and coordination of all Title IX complaints and the Colleges response where students are involved as complainants or respondents.
  • Facilitates the sexual violence prevention efforts for students faculty and staff on campus.
  • Advises the Title IX Student Advisory Board; a group of students that are dedicated to creating a culture of consent on campus and in their community.
Campus Civility
  • Develop and foster a culture of communication that instills discernment curiosity and collaborative approaches to difference and conflict.
  • Develop programming in collaboration with other parts of the Student Life team and campus to support pro-social value development among students (exs: tolerance civility empathy integrity etc.).
  • Educate and develop strengths and skill sets in conflict resolution instilling the value of intentional and generous communication in the student faculty and staff community.
  • Explore the use of restorative justice in the conduct process as a bridge to understanding and accountability through a growth mindset.
  • Maintain effective relationships with other student life professionals college leadership and faculty staff and function as an interface with the student life office and other areas.
Student Experience
  • Supervises the Student Life Administrative Assistant.
  • Participates in college-wide events including residence hall openings orientation welcome week family weekend and commencement.
  • Partner with other Student Life leaders to develop and improve student processes policies and planning that are student centered and compliant with regulations and best practice.
  • Educates faculty staff and students by offering regular professional development opportunities that highlight community standards and its connection to the values of inclusion and equity as well as the conduct process where appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Masters degree in student personnel counseling or related field required.
  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience with conduct Title IX legal issues in higher education mental health and crisis considerations.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States as we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
  • Successful completion of a driver and criminal background check in accordance with Coe College policy.

  • Sound judgment and decision making with empathy sensitivity and flexibility in dealing with student problems and situations.
  • Technological proficiency understanding of and experience with database systems like Advocate Maxient etc.
  • Strong organizational and leadership capabilities and experience with improvement of processes and systems that develop students and faculty/staff in the areas of conduct and civility.
  • Demonstrated compassion and competence in difficult situations.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
  • Some evening and weekend hours are expected especially during the academic year. Ability to respond to issues that occur outside typical working hours.
  • Ability to navigate residential buildings on campus including stairs.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to occasionally drive students to off-campus sites.
  • Typical office setting stationary for several hours at a time.
