Job Summary
An Epic Billing Analyst is a healthcare IT professional specializing in the Epic electronic health record (EHR) system focusing specifically on billing and revenue cycle functions.
Required Skills
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in supporting healthcare information systems particularly in a hospital billing environment is often preferred or required
Experience with Epic or similar healthcare applications is beneficial
Epic certification in relevant modules such as Resolute Hospital Billing (HB) or Professional Billing (PB) is highly preferred and may be required by some employers
Obtaining certification within a certain timeframe (e.g. six months of employment)
Key Responsibilities
System Configuration and Optimization
Configure and maintain Epics Resolute Professional Billing or Hospital Billing module to manage charges benefit engines claims and payment processors
Workflow Analysis and Improvement
Analyze workflows data collection and report details to identify areas for improvement and implement application solutions
Support and Troubleshooting
Act as a primary support contact for end-users resolving application issues and providing technical assistance
Implementation and Upgrades
Lead or participate in the implementation of new systems or features
Support system upgrades and ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g. ICD-10)
Collaboration and Communication
Liaise between the IT department billing office finance and other stakeholders to tailor systems to meet organizational needs
Testing and Documentation
Design build test and document system changes and workflows
Reporting and Data Analysis
Develop and generate reports to extract and analyze healthcare data
Training
Collaborate with trainers on application changes and new features to develop training materials and strategies
On-Call Support
Participate in on-call rotations to provide support for a 24/7 production environment
Essential Skills
Technical Expertise
Deep knowledge of Epics Resolute Professional Billing or Hospital Billing modules including:
Charge router
Work queue configuration
Collection agency workflows
Statement processing
Claims processing operations
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills
Ability to analyze complex issues troubleshoot problems identify root causes and develop effective solutions
Communication Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders including IT teams clinicians billing staff and vendors
Project Management Skills
Ability to lead meetings prioritize tasks resolve conflicts maintain issue lists and manage project plans
Attention to Detail
Meticulous approach to documentation system configuration and data integrity
Healthcare IT Knowledge
Strong understanding of revenue cycle processes clinical workflows and healthcare regulations (e.g. HIPAA)
Qualifications
Education
Bachelors degree in Information Technology Information Systems Healthcare Informatics or a related field is typically required
An Associates degree with equivalent work experience may also be considered
Experience
