OSCABEs mission is to prevent a billion tonnes of methane emissions from water. Our technology measures and captures dissolved methane and prevents methane emissionsturning a harmful greenhouse gas into a clean-energy opportunity.
Role Summary
You will design build and execute laboratory and pilot-scale experiments focused on methane extraction from water and wastewater. The role involves instrumenting test rigs running experiments reporting data troubleshooting inconsistencies and translating experimental findings into engineering improvements.
Requirements
Design procure and build experimental rigs from scratch and carry out laboratory experiments evaluating fluid flow mass transfer and separation efficiency.
Develop experimental protocols and test plans aligned with development milestones.
Instrument experimental rigs and configure data-acquisition (DAQ) systems.
Design reporting templates and document experimental results.
Troubleshoot experimental inconsistencies.
Summarise findings through daily communications reports recommendations and presentations.
Collaborate closely with engineers to improve separation and measurement systems.
Qualifications & Experience
BSc in Chemical Process Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. MSc / MEng / PhD in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering is desirable.
Strong understanding of fluid dynamics mass transfer and separation processes.
At least 3 years of experience designing and executing experiments including instrumentation and DAQ systems.
Competent in basic data analysis. Excel is mandatory; experience with a programming language is a plus.
Hands-on experience building operating and maintaining laboratory setups sensors pumps and test rigs.
Working Mode
On-site at Cranfield University UK.
Expected travel of up to 30% for field tests and sampling.
Hands-on work with wastewater and sludge treatment processes.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: 32000.0036000.00 per year
Ability to Commute/Relocate
Experience
Work Location: In person
Benefits
Required Skills:
Assembly & Wiring: Build panels connect sensors actuators and controllers; route cables neatly and securely. Plumbing: Install and test water and gas lines fittings and valves for experimental rigs and pilot systems. Testing: Perform continuity checks leak tests and assist in troubleshooting under supervision. Mechanical Fitting: Assemble frames mounts and enclosures; operate workshop tools and assist with 3D-printed parts. Documentation: Record assembly steps test results and update checklists. Field Support: Travel to pilot sites for installation and commissioning activities; assist engineers during setup and validation. Safety Compliance: Follow OSCABEs safety protocols for electrical mechanical and plumbing work. Essential Skills & Experience Practical experience in electrical wiring mechanical assembly and plumbing for water and gas systems. Ability to read and follow CAD drawings and wiring diagrams (Autodesk Inventor/Fusion and Visio familiarity desirable). Competence with basic electrical testing tools (multimeter signal calibrator). Hands-on skills with workshop tools and 3D-printed component handling. Proficiency with Windows OS for opening drawings and using Microsoft tools (Teams Outlook Excel). Strong attention to detail and ability to work under supervision. Nice-to-Have Experience supporting control systems and sensor integration. Familiarity with Arduino or similar DAQ (basic programming exposure helpful). Previous work in process or experimental rigs for water wastewater or environmental systems. Qualifications Electrical / Mechanical / Plumbing Engineering or equivalent practical experience. Education: Certificate of Higher Education (preferred) Experience: Electrical wiring mechanical assembly and plumbing: 1 year (preferred) Willingness to Travel: 25% (preferred) Work Location: In person
