The Iniskim Centre offers programs and services to increase the engagement and success of Indigenous students while also raising awareness of Indigenous peoples and cultures. About the Role
Reporting to the lniskim Centre Director with occasional supervision by the Indigenous University Bridging Program Administrator the Program Assistant is responsible for the overall administration of the Indigenous University Bridging Program. The Program Assistant will work closely with the Program Administrator and other lniskim staff. Tasks include: preparation of instructional contracts interacting with instructors and staff to coordinate class schedules meeting with students for registration support sharing program information with prospective students data entry and word processing and support for events hosted by the lniskim Centre. Participation as a team member in daily procedures and attendance at lniskim staff meetings is also required.
This is a permanent full-time position working 35 hours per week.
Responsibilities
Indigenous University Bridging Program Assistant responsibilities include:
- Clerical Duties such as maintaining a database of student information as well as answering emails and phone calls from current and prospective students
- Scheduling information sessions for prospective applicants and preparing promotional information about the Iniskim Centre and Mount Royal University
- Collaborating with Marketing and Communications to review and update program assets such as websites and print materials
- Utilizing software such as Banner Argos and EZ Recruit to access student information for reporting and advising purpose
- Attending staff meetings and participating in events including New Student Orientation Open House and the Indigenous Honouring Ceremonies
- Student Support Duties such as meeting with students for appointments related to course registration academic advising and admission plans
- Guiding students on software such as MyMRU MRU Gradu8 and D2L for effective navigation of student academic needs
- Assisting students with program award and/or sponsorship applications
- Referring students to service providers across the MRU campus
- Program-Related Duties include Booking Rooms preparing instructor contracts and representing the Iniskim Centre at campus events
- Supporting and assisting Elders and guests that visit the Iniskim Centre
Qualifications
- Three or four-year bachelor degree or equivalent
- Minimum three to five years of related work experience
- Experience working within a post-secondary institution preferably with Indigenous Peoples and/or communities
- Working knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Suite (Excel Access Word) and Google Suite
- Experience with Banner student information system would be an asset
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills that support a collaborative work environment
- An understanding of and desire to support Mount Royal Universitys commitments to Indigenization and decolonization through student-centered programming
Salary: $52816.40 - $66848.60 per annum
