Job Duties

The Adolescent Health Coordinator works with VDH staff and stakeholders to lead programs for youth across the Commonwealth. The Adolescent Health Coordinator is a member of the Reproductive Health Unit in the Division of Child and Family Health within the Office of Family Health Services. The Reproductive Health Unit manages the Title X Family Planning Program the Contraceptive Access Initiative the Pregnancy Loss Initiative the State Funding of Certain Abortions Program the Adolescent Health Program the Resource Mothers Program and the State Doula Certification Program. The Adolescent Health Coordinator is also a critical partner and leader of Title V Maternal and Child Health efforts across the Commonwealth.

Program Management:

Manage all aspects of the Sexual Risk Avoidance Education and Title V-funded Sex Education Programs including partner agreements invoices budgets expenditures program performance and data collection/evaluation.

Manage all aspects of the Title V-funded Youth Engagement Program and assure that the program achieves all objectives outlined in the Title V State Action Plan.

Supervise Youth Advisors which includes offering guidance training and support in achieving program objectives and professional development opportunities outlined in the Title V State Action Plan and employee work plans.

Ensure that all programs are consistent with federal funding requirements and best practices.

Offer relevant trainings and technical assistance to funded sites that are responsive to staff and community needs.

Conduct in-person site reviews of each site at least once every two years.

Work with team to assess the quality of each funded program and lead quality assurance and improvement efforts.

Establish and maintain partnerships with local state and national organizations that support adolescent health.

Serve as the subject matter expert on adolescent health with a special emphasis on adolescent reproductive health. This includes but is not limited to confidently representing these initiatives when engaging with agency leadership legislators stakeholders and constituents when the opportunities arise. Clearly present accurate complete well-researched information about these topics when the opportunities arise.

Lead state policy initiatives related to adolescent health with a special emphasis on adolescent reproductive health.

Collaborate with teams within the Office of Family Health Services other offices at VDH Local Health Districts community-based partners and stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of program planning research evaluation and quality control methods
Experience providing technical assistance related to program development and analysis
Experience in conducting research including data collection analysis and dissemination
Ability to interpret and implement data collection and reporting requirements
Experience leading complex research or related projects
Ability to develop reports manage electronic data and create effective data visualizations
Skilled in presenting information clearly and effectively
Strong communication skills to provide leadership set priorities facilitate collaboration and effectively convey information to others

Additional Considerations

Experience working directly with adolescents
Experience providing mentorship to adolescents and/or young professionals
Ability to manage program budgets and expenditures
