Job Summary

Description

This posting is for multiple full-time summer positions for up to 4 months (May to August) with the possibility of extension.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide project management assistance in all aspects of concrete and asphalt maintenance drainage and gravel maintenance as well as capital projects
  • Coordinate quality control activities and report progress on construction for capital projects in both rural and urban areas (eg: residential rehabilitation program arterial rehabilitation program rural road re-gravel rural drainage inspection and improvements)
  • Provide survey investigations and analysis to both urban and rural areas
  • Seek solutions to assigned challenges on special projects through research and analysis
  • Provide recommendations to project staff and affected parties based on research findings
  • Assist in the development of presentations and reports for internal teams and external partners
  • Support project management staff in organizing and facilitating meetings with community and project partners

Qualificationsand Skills:

  • Enrolled in a post-secondary Civil Engineering (or related) Co-op Student program along with satisfactory grades
  • Previous construction related experience would be considered an asset
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Drivers license and submission of a Drivers Abstract with less than 7 demerits
  • Reliable personal transportation is required (no public transit routes to the Transportation Engineering and Operations office) mileage for work use will be reimbursed in accordance with Strathcona County vehicle allowance policies
  • Ability to work in an office environment and/or in the field as required (including remote rural areas)
  • Ability to work some overtime (evenings and weekends) as required
  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties which may include moderate to heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds) and stand/walk for extended periods of time
