The Transition House Association of Nova Scotia (THANS) is seeking an experienced Professional Development & Curriculum Lead to join our team and play a key role in strengthening the capacity of our member organizations to develop their frontline staff. What youll do
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Executive Director The Professional Development & Curriculum Lead (PDCL) leads the development coordination and delivery of internal education and professional development for our members frontline staff across the province. This role focuses on building a cohesive learning system that supports consistent high-quality service provision across the THANS network.
Key responsibilities include:
Core Curriculum & Learning Design
- Lead the development implementation and ongoing refinement of THANS internal curriculum & instructional content for our members frontline staff.
- Build upon and advance the foundational core curriculum created by the Education & Prevention Lead to create a structured learning pathway.
- Consult with subject matter experts including THANS member organizations and external partners as needed to ensure curriculum content is accurate current and reflective of best practice.
- Collaborate with relevant organizations to inform the development of specialized curriculum components.
Training Delivery & Capacity Building
- Deliver and coordinate training for frontline staff on internal programming frameworks and practice standards.
- Support professional development opportunities for staff across THANS member organizations.
Microcredential Development & Academic Partnerships
- Lead the design and implementation of a THANS microcredential in gender-based violence response and practice.
- Collaborate with academic institutions and credentialing bodies to formalize accreditation pathways.
- Coordinate curriculum mapping learning outcomes and assessment structures required for microcredential recognition.
- Strengthen and maintain partnerships with post-secondary institutions to align training standards and certification requirements.
Learning Systems & Evaluation
- Manage and oversee THANS learning platform Reach 360 ensuring effective content delivery and learner engagement.
- Track participation completion rates and learner feedback to inform continuous improvement.
- Establish evaluation tools to assess training impact knowledge retention and workforce development outcomes.
Education Advisory Subcommittee Leadership
- Serve as the staff lead for the Education Advisory Subcommittee.
- Coordinate meeting logistics agendas and workplans in collaboration with the Executive Director.
- Support the Subcommittee in providing strategic guidance on THANS internal education training priorities and curriculum direction.
What youll need
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Post-secondary education in a relevant field (e.g. adult education instructional design social work/social services public health gender studies or a related discipline) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3-5 years of related experience in curriculum development professional development training delivery and/or workforce learning.
- Demonstrated experience developing training content for adult learners including structured learning outcomes and practical skills-based materials.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed and evidence-informed approaches ideally within gender-based violence (GBV) or a related community-based sector.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong facilitation and training delivery skills (virtual and in-person) with the ability to engage diverse groups of adult learners.
- Ability to translate complex topics into clear accessible frontline-relevant learning materials.
- Strong project coordination skills including planning prioritizing and managing multiple timelines and deliverables.
- Strong digital fluency and comfort working independently across online tools and learning platforms.
- Commitment to inclusive accessible and values-aligned learning design and delivery.
Additional Assets (Nice-to-Have)
- Experience using Articulate (Storyline/Rise) and/or learning management platforms (e.g. Brightspace Moodle or similar).
- Experience supporting the development of formal learning pathways certificates or microcredentials in partnership with academic institutions.

The Transition House Association of Nova Scotia (THANS) is an umbrella association of violence against women organizations across the province. Our 14 members support women and their families experiencing violence by offering services such as: 24/7 emergency shelter and crisis lines safety planning counselling outreach referrals and advocacy court accompaniment and system navigation.
Our mission is to eliminate violence against women in Nova Scotia by supporting and strengthening the work of our members. THANS works in partnership with government and community stakeholders to ensure sustainable funding effective policies and comprehensive services that meet the needs of survivors. We also lead public education and advocacy efforts to raise awareness and drive systemic change.
