Job Description
Position Introduction:
The Education Department invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Education with a focus on Elementary Literacy (grades 1-6). This faculty member will teach courses that lead to New York State Elementary Certification grades 1-6.
Job Description:
We seek an individual with a strong commitment to promoting socially just equitable inclusive and critically transformative learning environments. The teaching load is five courses per year. The courses to be taught include a year-long literacy development course for students in grades 1-6. This course is typically held at a local elementary school and the instructor supervises the students literacy teaching with addition to this course the instructor will teach our introductory course Issues in Contemporary Education (both spring and fall semester) and one course of their design based on their interests and expertise. The Education Department offers not only teacher certification but also a major and correlate (minor) in Educational Studies. We seek a colleague with interests that engage critical theoretical perspectives.
Qualifications: Doctorate in education or related field (ABD considered); At least three years of literacy teaching experience at the elementary level with children of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds; a record of potential for excellence in college teaching in a liberal arts setting; expertise in or experience working in inclusive environments and with pre-service teachers are also highly valued.

Pay Transparency Disclosure:
The annual base starting salary range for this position is $89000 to $93000 (USD). When extending an offer of employment Vassar College considers factors such as (but not limited to) candidates education/training work experience internal peer equity as well as market and organizational considerations. This salary range represents the Colleges good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of posting.
