1 year experience in refrigeration repair and maintenance preferred
1-2 years experience in electrical/electronic control systems preferred.
1-2 years experience in installing and servicing commercial kitchen equipment
preferred.
POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE
The CNS Equipment Repair Specialist under supervision will maintain repair and install all
kitchen and refrigeration equipment throughout the district; provide support to Child Nutrition
Services by maintaining and providing safe conditions and operation of all kitchen equipment
within the district facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Maintenance and Repair:
1. On-call 24/7 for emergency needs related to Child Nutrition kitchens or equipment.
2. Installs maintains troubleshoots repairs calibrates and monitors all Child Nutrition kitchen
equipment seeking approval from supervisor for repairs as needed
3. Develop and maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for all kitchen equipment.
4. Develop and maintain the inventory of all kitchen equipment.
5. Maintain maintenance records and prepare reports.
6. Maintains inventory of replacement parts and equipment necessary to keep kitchens
operating properly both in the warehouse and in MISD service vehicle.
7. Assists with preparation of specifications for recommendations of new/replacement tools
supplies and equipment needed.
8. Dispose of all equipment as needed in the appropriate manner according to District State
and Federal guidelines.
9. Ability to prioritize according to needs and complete work requests in a timely manner. Highly
self-motivated and self-starter.
10. Maintains an attitude of mutual respect and courtesy.
11. Communicates effectively orally and/or in writing.
12. Works independently or collaboratively with others in a wide variety of circumstances.
13. Works safely and responds promptly to emergency situations.
14. Exercises sound judgment in decision-making.

16. Possesses computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office or equivalent (Word Excel
and Outlook Google Docs/Sheets etc.).
17. Reads and interprets manuals specifications diagrams and blueprints.
18. Estimates necessary materials and equipment to complete maintenance and repair of all
equipment in the Child Nutrition kitchen area.
19. Prepares written estimates for supervisor approval for repairs/maintenance needs over set
limits.

1. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensure that equipment is in safe
operating condition.
2. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and
climbing.
3. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
4. Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and promptly report any conditions that are not
immediately correctable to the supervisor.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education/Certification:
1. High School Diploma or GED
2. Valid and current Texas Drivers License-Class C.
3. Ability to read write understand and speak English
4. Ability to obtain a food handlers certificate
5. Willing to participate in Child Nutrition professional development
6. HVAC/Refrigeration handling certification preferred
7. Ability to obtain forklift certification.
8. Ability to obtain brand specific certification of repairs/maintenance of equipment.
Special Knowledge / Skills:
1. Knowledge of refrigeration repairs maintenance and installation techniques.
2. Knowledge of plumbing repairs maintenance and installation techniques.
3. Knowledge of electric circuits wiring and operating principles of motors.
4. Knowledge of procurement and able to work with procurement staff.
5. Ability to read and interpret blueprints diagrams schematics and written reference materials.
6. Ability to diagnose and resolve problems.
7. Ability to repair knobs handles hinges utility carts and other minor repairs
8. Ability to use hand and power tools.
9. Understands importance of ongoing training and certification to improve job skills.
10. Knows when decisions can be made independently or when consultation with a supervisor is
needed.
