Description of Work
This is work in the maintenance and repair of diesel engines and other marine equipment in the Department of Transportation Ferry Division. Assignments are received from a Marine Mechanic Supervisor. Employees perform tasks ranging from general and routine assignments to those of moderate complexity requiring the application of knowledge and ability acquired from on-the-job training dealing with ferry vessels. Guidance and instruction in the principles and techniques involved are provided by a marine mechanic adjusting the degree of supervision given to employees based on the scope and difficulty of the assignment. This position also assists other entities in the Ferry Division and may require overnight travel. The employee must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle. All other duties as required by the supervisor.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC08 - $37782 - $66120
Management prefers applicants with the following:
Working knowledge of the operating principles of diesel and gasoline engines.
Knowledge of the operating principles of reduction gears and hydraulic systems.
Knowledge of the operating principles of air and electric control systems.
Knowledge of the operating principles of vacuum and pressure pumps.
Demonstrated ability to determine the cause of and procedures to follow in repairing malfunctioning equipment.
Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of progressive experience in the repair of diesel and gasoline engines transmissions hydraulic air and electric systems and components preferably in the ship repair or shipbuilding industry; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.EEO Statement
