JOB DESCRIPTION

The Village is seeking to fill the position of Instrumentation Technician in the Water Production Unit. This position is responsible for planning coordinating and performing a variety of skilled maintenance work on mechanical electrical electronic and telemetry elements of utility systems to ensure efficient and reliable operation. Work involves the application of mechanical and technical knowledge in implementing inspection repair operation and maintenance programs for utility systems.


QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Preferred candidate must have:

  • High School diploma or equivalency supplemented by related technical courses and training
  • Two years experience with utility maintenance systems and performing mechanical electrical instrumentation preferably with preventative maintenance program
  • Two years experience implementing ordering and maintaining inventory for a maintenance program
  • Acquisition of the following certification with 12 months of employment:
    1. Allen Bradley PLC 5 Logic System Integrator
    2. In Touch Software Control System Schooling by Wonderware
  • Have or obtain a State of Florida Level C Water Plant Operator Certification with 24 months of employment and thereafter maintain valid Level C Certification
  • Valid drivers license
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) Certification in accordance with Village policy
  • Any equivalent combination of qualification and experience


Necessary Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of wells filters reverse osmosis filtration processes water purification treatment and pumping processes
  • Advanced knowledge of the materials methods and tools of maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment; ability to locate and evaluate causes of equipment failure and considerable knowledge of machinery pumps and motors
  • Advanced knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to maintenance and repair work
  • Good physical condition and stamina to perform arduous manual tasks sometimes under unfavorable conditions
  • Good knowledge of automation concepts with ability to install modify program and test the SCADA system
  • Ability to read work from complex diagrams and blueprints; read and program ladder logic for PLC
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting and inventory maintenance principles
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Village staff and the Villages engineering consultants in the design and construction of utility systems


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans coordinates and performs installation and maintenance of mechanical equipment and electrical instrumentation systems on all water treatment equipment at the water plant and other utility facilities
  • Inspects diagnoses and effects repairs on mechanical and electrical equipment and instruments. Designs builds and/or modifies fixtures instruments and related apparatus
  • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance of electrical systems electronic instrumentation radio/telemetry equipment and control circuits maintain parts and related inventories. Works with and develops network and communication systems
  • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance of mechanical equipment pumps motors and controls
  • Assists with preparing budgets for electrical electronic instrumentation systems and maintains parts and related inventories
  • Performs water treatment operations at reverse osmosis and filtration water treatment plants under the direction of the immediate supervisor license and permit conditions
  • Communicates with coworkers management citizens engineers contractors vendors and others in a manner that builds cooperation and consensus
  • Completes maintenance work orders and reports findings modifies operational manuals and procedures as needed
  • Collects quotation for services repairs and parts and orders and arranges maintenance functions
  • Complies conforms with and abides by all regulations policies work procedures and instructions including all safety rules and wears/uses all appropriate safety equipment


WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Subject to occasional duty before or after regular working hours as assigned.
  • Subject to respond to emergencies 24 hours/day 7 days/week 365 days/year.
  • Regularly works in outside weather conditions and is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
  • Frequently works near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to vibration and loud noise.
  • May occasionally work in high precarious places and occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger handle feel or operate objects tools or controls and reach with hands and arms.
  • Regularly required to walk sit climb or balance stoop kneel crouch or crawl and smell.
  • Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 100 pounds or more with assistive equipment.
  • Vision abilities include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
