JOB SUMMARY
The Environmental Compliance Technician I is an entry level position and would report to a Department Manager 2 or 3. Employees in this position would be conducting inspections or environmental sampling in one or more various programs including: Food Pool Childcare Body Art Septic/Well Campground or Vector Surveillance.
REQUIRED TASKS
- Conduct state and local environmental public health inspections at food service establishments day care facilities public swimming pools private and public onsite water and sewage disposal systems body art facilities campgrounds and other public buildings or sites that are under the jurisdiction of Wayne County Health Human and Veterans Services (HHVS) Public Health Division.
- Accurately and thoroughly identify and document findings/violations from environmental public health inspections in program specific reports. Prepare and submit reports in a timely manner.
- Conduct field inspections for site characteristics that determine conformance to local public health regulations at facilities or operations including but not limited to septic systems well locations food service establishments and campgrounds.
- Conduct field reviews of licensed public establishments including but not limited to food service establishments public swimming pools day care facilities and body art facilities.
- In accordance with state and local environmental public health regulations issue approvals permits licenses etc.
In accordance with state and local public health regulations conduct enforcement activities for businesses that are found in noncompliance with environmental public health regulations and ordinances. - Investigate complaints including foodborne illness investigations at licensed facilities public buildings and sites that are under the jurisdiction of the Wayne County Public Health Division. This also includes reports of illicit discharges.
- Track file and maintain accurate records of inspections evaluations investigations etc.
- Perform environmental sampling of food water vectors dust soil or air.
- Provide public education on food safety principles water quality issues public swimming pool safety or other Environmental Health topics as needed.
- Track and accurately document administrative information such as time spent conducting Environmental Health activities and duties time worked leave time and mileage for reimbursement. Submit all documentation as required and in a timely manner.
- Participate in Emergency Preparedness training and exercises.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Educational Requirements
- Bachelors Degree from a recognized college or university with a major in Environmental Health Environmental Studies Environmental Engineering or the Physical Chemical or Natural Sciences or equivalent with at least 30 semester hours of college credit in basic science coursework (life sciences natural sciences physical sciences or health sciences) and at least one college level math or statistics class.
- Must have a valid State of Michigan drivers license an acceptable driving record auto insurance as required by law and automobile available for daily use.
