Job Summary

About the Role:

We are excited to invite applications for a proactive Library Assistant to support our Secondary and High School students as well as French-speaking students staff and parents.

This is also a student-facing role so you will interact with students regularly. Strong French and English communication skills along with a friendly and supportive approach are essential.

This is a full-time permanent position. Candidates must have the right to work in Taiwan holding either an APRC or local status.

Primary Purpose:

To assist with managing and maintaining one of the Libraries of TES working under the direction of the Chief Librarian and in conjunction with teaching staff.

Leadership and Supervisory Responsibilities

No supervisory responsibility for other TES employees.

Working Relationships and Contacts

  • Has internal contacts with the respective staff parents teachers teaching assistants and students.
  • has external contacts with international book suppliers and other information resource suppliers.

Specific Duties:

General
  • Accession and process all new resources.
  • Maintain circulation (loans) shelving inventory stock control and security of the respective library.
  • Support and promote reading events or activities.
  • Maintain a tidy quiet and inviting environment in the respective library.
Developing Learning Resources
  • Assist with the organisation of library resources using the Dewey Decimal Classification methodology and maintaining a database of the resources.
  • Work with the librarian and teachers to develop resources to support the curriculum e.g. acquiring collections in specific languages creating book displays and developing reading lists.
Communication
  • Conduct library educational programs for students.
  • Updating library news via the school website or newsletter.
  • Communicate with parents and staff in respective sections.

Qualification

  • A bachelors degree in library and information science or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous library or educational support experience is an advantage.
  • Fluent or highly proficient in French able to support secondary students with French-language resources and communication.

Skills / Abilities

  • Strong French and English written & verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate in various functions and manage internal and external stakeholders.
  • Word processing skills and knowledge of Google Suite and applications.
  • Wide knowledge of literature and publications for children and teenagers.
  • Proficient information literacy and prior library experience are advantages.

  • Presentable mature person with strong communication skills.
  • Independent organised and accurate.
  • Willingness to tackle problems and enjoy challenges.
  • Willingness to participate in further training and development opportunities.
