DescriptionIn accordance with the Vision Purpose and Values and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
As part of a multidisciplinary health care team the Oncology Nurse assesses plans provides and evaluates nursing care for assigned patients/clients in accordance with established policies procedures and standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Training And Experience
Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant; BC Cancer Systemic Therapy certification and two (2) years recent related experience. Basic Life Support Level C. Certification in Oncology Nursing from The Canadian Nurses Associations (CNA) would be considered an asset.
Skills And Abilities
- Apply the nursing process.
- Demonstrate sound organizational problem solving and teaching skills
- Demonstrate good judgement observation and patient/client assessment
- Demonstrate tact and empathy
- Prioritise and organise patient/client care needs
- Operate related equipment
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary health care team
- Assume in charge responsibility
- Foster good public relations
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Physically able to perform the duties of the position
