Job Summary

    • Position Summary
    • Classified as:Student Services Professional III

      Full-time position available on or after March 2 2026for the Student Success Center.

      Under general direction the Academic Success and Career Services Advisor provides academic advising and counseling services to undergraduate and graduate Business Administration students supporting their educational and professional goals. The advisor also offers career counseling and serves as a liaison between the College of Business Administration and potential addition this position assists in coordinating workshops and career-related activities aimed at helping students secure employment before and after graduation. TheAcademic Success and Career Services Advisor collaborates and problem-solves with members of the campus community to promote students academic development and success.

    • Job Duties
    • Duties include but are not limited to:
      • Provide individualized academic advising to undergraduate and graduate Business
      • Administration students including course evaluation and selection registration assistance and graduation approval.
      • Assist students in completing enrollment forms petitions and graduation processes to support timely degree completion and enhance their educational experience.
      • Participate in new student orientation programs for freshmen and transfer students by explaining degree requirements and assisting with course planning and registration.
      • Maintain current knowledge of course offerings major and concentration requirements general education and university policies to provide accurate and comprehensive advising.
      • Maintain detailed up-to-date advising records for each student including progress toward major general education and graduate program requirements.
      • Guide students in identifying appropriate career goals concentrations and professional pathways within the field of business.
      • Serve as a resource to connect students with internship and employment opportunities and collaborate with employers to facilitate career exploration and placement.
      • Assist in coordinating workshops panels and other career-related activities designed to enhance students professional readiness and job placement prior to and after graduation.
      • Contribute to the development implementation and continuous improvement of advising and support services that promote student retention persistence and success.
      • Assist in formulating and implementing departmental goals procedures and best practices aligned with college and university objectives.
      • Participate in regular staff meetings and contribute to collaborative problem-solving and program planning efforts.
      • Support the coordination training and supervision of student assistants involved in advising and program support activities.
      • Utilize technology and student information systems to maintain accurate and current advising records and reports.
      • Ensure compliance with university policies procedures and regulations related to academic advising and student records.
      • Engage in ongoing professional development to remain informed about current trends policies and best practices in academic and career advising.
      • May be required to obtain additional training and/or certification as part of professional development based on department and/or campus needs to stay current with industry standards.
      • At the direction of appropriate administrator may provide support to other areas as needed.
      • The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar related or a logical assignment to this classification.

    • Minimum Qualifications
    • Education:Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related.

      Experience:Equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. (A masters degree in Counseling Clinical Psychology Social Work or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.)

      • Masters degree or graduate course work in counseling techniques interviewing and conflict resolution.
      • Demonstrated direct experience advising students in higher education: in career service college/ university relations and
        marketing or business in the field of placement.
      • Experience conducting workshops and facilitating events.
      • Experience working with students from various ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds including underserved students.
      • Prior experience in a higher education or university setting.
    • Knowledge Skills Abilities

      • General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management.
      • General knowledge of research and interview techniques
      • Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations.
      • Ability to use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing longrange program improvements.
      • Ability to obtain factual and interpretive information through interviews.
      • Ability to reason logically; ability to collect compile analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentation based on these data.

      • Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior.
      • General knowledge of the principles practices and trends of the Student Services field as well as general knowledge of the policies procedures activities and practices of the program area to which assigned.
      • General knowledge of individual counseling techniques.
      • General knowledge or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge of the overall operation functions programs organizational procedures and activities of the campus.
      • Working knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned.
      • Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action.
      • Ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters.
      • Ability to determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature.
      • Ability to interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations analyze and define the problem draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action.
      • Ability to carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions.
      • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals to include faculty CSU administrators student organizations and other private and public agencies and others in committee work and student advising and community contacts.

    • Salary Range
    • Anticipated starting salary will be $5540 - $6094per month plus excellent paid benefits.Salary will depend on the qualifications of the successful finalist. (Full range: $5540- $7893per month.)
