Position Summary
A growing transportation and infrastructure engineering office is seeking an experienced Senior Bridge & Structural Project Manager to lead bridge and transportation structure projects at the local state and federal levels. This role is responsible for full project delivery including planning scope schedule budget quality risk management and client coordination. The position requires strong technical credibility in bridge and structural design combined with proven project and team leadership experience.
Key Responsibilities
Manage bridge and structural design projects in accordance with approved scope schedule and budget
Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams to deliver high-quality design solutions
Provide technical expertise throughout the project lifecycle from preliminary design through final design and construction support
Develop construction plans calculations and associated technical submittal documents
Prepare and maintain project management plans quality management plans and project schedules
Identify manage and coordinate subconsultants and technical resources
Monitor project progress manage risks and develop extra work authorizations and task proposals as needed
Communicate project status risks and financial performance to internal and external stakeholders
Build and maintain strong client relationships to support successful project execution
Prepare progress reports review invoices and participate in project financial review meetings
Lead and participate in project status meetings and presentations
Mentor and coach project team members through regular check-ins feedback and performance support
Support marketing and business development efforts including go/no-go evaluations proposal development and interviews
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of Virginia (active and in good standing)
Minimum of 10 years of experience in bridge and structural design
Demonstrated experience managing scope schedule budget and quality on bridge or structural projects
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong presentation and stakeholder engagement skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with state transportation agencies and local public-sector clients in Virginia
Experience with multiple project delivery methods including Design-Bid-Build Design-Build and P3
Experience leading and managing multidisciplinary engineering teams
Prior responsibility for client coordination and project financial performance
Work Environment
Primarily office-based (approximately 95%)
Occasional fieldwork required including site visits in varying weather conditions
May require occasional lifting of materials up to 25 pounds
