Job Details:

The Department of Counseling in the College of Professional Advancement at Mercer University invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Counseling to begin August 1 2026. This is a 9-month faculty appointment with a teaching load of seven (7) courses per academic year.


Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will provide high-quality instruction across CACREP core and specialty curricular areas engage in academic and professional advising and contribute to service activities that support program quality student success and the mission of the College of Professional Advancement Department of Counseling. While this is a teaching-focused non-tenure track position the successful candidate will be expected to engage in active scholarly engagement and dissemination.

Duties include:

Teaching

  • Teach seven (7) graduate-level counseling courses across the academic year (Fall and Spring) in CACREP-accredited programs.

  • Provide instruction across CACREP core areas (e.g. professional orientation ethics human development multicultural counseling assessment research group counseling career development and diagnosis).

  • Design and deliver rigorous student-centered coursework that integrates counseling theory clinical practice and ethical standards.

  • Teach in in-person hybrid and/or online modalities as assigned based on program and student needs.

  • Evaluate student learning outcomes provide timely and meaningful feedback and maintain accurate academic records.

  • Participate in faculty meetings curriculum coordination and other instructional activities that support high-quality program delivery.

Scholarship and Scholarly Engagement

  • Maintain an active program of scholarly engagement and dissemination.

  • Model scholarly inquiry critical thinking and professional writing for students.

  • Mentor doctoral students in research writing and scholarship activities.

  • Maintain membership in relevant professional counseling organizations.

Advising and Student Support

  • Provide academic advising to assigned masters-level students regarding program progression professional development and readiness for clinical training and graduation.

  • Once established provide limited doctoral advising and/or committee service consistent with departmental needs and faculty expertise.

  • Support student professional identity development ethical practice and preparation for licensure and professional practice.

  • Collaborate with faculty and program leadership in identifying and supporting students who require academic or professional remediation.

Service and Program Contribution

  • Participate in department program and college service activities (e.g. committees assessment efforts student recruitment admissions interviews and program development).

  • Contribute to CACREP accreditation continuous improvement and program assessment activities as assigned.

  • Support the departments mission to provide high-quality counselor education in a collaborative inclusive and student-centered academic environment.

Additional Expectations

  • Maintain an on-campus presence consistent with teaching advising and service responsibilities.

  • Demonstrate professionalism collegiality and commitment to the ethical standards of the counseling profession.

  • While this position is housed on the Atlanta campus some travel to other campuses may be required for academic meetings and other special events.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Earned doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP-accredited program

  • Licensed or license-eligible as a Professional Counselor in the State of Georgia.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of CACREP standards and counselor licensure requirements.

  • Evidence of effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty staff and students.

  • Commitment to excellence in teaching student development and ethical professional practice.

Preferred:

  • Graduate-level teaching experience in counselor education or related professional programs.

  • Professional counseling practice experience.

  • Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) credential or state-recognized clinical supervision credential (CPCS).

  • Experience teaching across multiple instructional modalities (in-person hybrid online).

  • Experience supporting accreditation assessment or continuous improvement processes.

The College of Professional Advancement at Mercer University offers CACREP-accredited offering graduate degree programs in Clinical Mental Health Counseling School Counseling Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision. Located on Mercers Atlanta campus the department prepares professional counselors and counselor educators through a strong integration of clinical training ethical practice multicultural competence and evidence-informed scholarship.
