Schedule: Monday Friday 8:00 AM 5:00 PM (Overtime frequently required; target 45 hours/week)

Position Summary

Tekberry is seeking a detail-oriented Drafting / CAD Technician II to support a global mechanical drafting organization responsible for custom-designed process equipment used across the Optical Fiber and Cable manufacturing sites worldwide.

In this role you will assist in the creation revision and management of electronic drawing files using Autodesk Inventor AutoCAD and Autodesk Vault. The position focuses on preparing engineering and development drawing sets for release into the system while ensuring full compliance with company drafting standards. This is a production-focused drafting role; no new design activity is within scope.

Key Responsibilities

Drafting & Documentation Support

  • Assist the area drafting lead in completing engineering and development drawing sets prior to release into Autodesk Vault.
  • Correct redlined models and drawings issued by drafting leads or engineering/development teams.
  • Create accurate 3D models and associated 2D drawings in accordance with company standards.
  • Generate 2D drawings from existing 3D models created by other users.
  • Convert legacy hand-drawn and AutoCAD drawings into 3D models with fully associative drawings.

Standards Accuracy & Data Integration

  • Ensure all drawings comply with established company drafting standards including:
    • Detail drawings
    • Sheet metal drawings
    • Weldment drawings
    • Assembly drawings
  • Collect and incorporate data from engineering teams into appropriate drawings.
  • Gather measurements and technical information from the production floor and accurately reflect them in drawings.
  • Maintain strong attention to detail to ensure drawing accuracy consistency and completeness.

Collaboration & Workflow

  • Work closely with drafting leads engineers and development teams to ensure timely and accurate deliverables.
  • Adapt quickly to internal drafting standards processes and documentation guidelines.
  • Support a high-volume drafting environment with multiple concurrent priorities.

Required Qualifications

Education

Candidates should possess one of the following (other technical degrees with demonstrated drafting skills will be considered):

  • A.A.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • A.O.S. in Drafting/CAD
  • Drafting Certificate or Certification

Candidates without a degree must demonstrate strong proficiency in 2D and 3D mechanical drafting.

Experience & Technical Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of professional mechanical drafting experience.
  • Proficient in Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault.
  • Working knowledge of ASME/ANSI drafting standards.
  • General proficiency with Windows-based computer systems.
  • Experience converting legacy drawings into modern 3D models and drawings.
  • Ability to interpret redlines and engineering markups accurately.

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Contract position through a third-party supplier (Tekberry).
  • One-year contract with strong potential for extension based on performance and workload.
  • Hybrid work schedule available (3 4 days remote per week).
  • Overtime frequently required to support project demand.
