Job Description:
The Physical Therapist restores patient function alleviates pain and prevents disability by planning and administering medically prescribed physical therapy treatments. This role provides both inpatient and outpatient services while delivering high-quality patient-centered care.
Essential Functions:
- Promote the mission vision and values of the organization.
- Provide inpatient and outpatient physical therapy services.
- Assess patients by interpreting evaluations and test results to develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with physicians.
- Assist patients in achieving therapy goals through therapeutic exercises functional activities and use of assistive devices.
- Administer physical therapy treatments including manual therapy traction therapeutic modalities and other prescribed interventions.
- Supervise and direct treatments provided by aides technicians and assistants as appropriate.
- Evaluate patient progress and treatment effectiveness; recommend plan modifications as needed.
- Participate in discharge planning and interdisciplinary care conferences.
- Develop and instruct patients families and caregivers on home exercise programs and post-discharge care.
- Document patient care services accurately and timely in patient and departmental records.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with privacy regulations.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment and adhere to infection control protocols.
- Ensure proper operation and maintenance of therapy equipment.
- Maintain professional and technical competence through continuing education and professional development.
- Support staff development through education and in-service training.
- Comply with all federal state and local legal and professional requirements.
- Contribute to team goals and departmental operations.
Professional Requirements:
- Maintain professional appearance and adhere to dress code.
- Complete required annual education and training.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Report to work on time and as scheduled.
- Wear required identification while on duty.
- Comply with applicable state federal and local regulations.
- Represent the organization in a professional and ethical manner.
- Participate in performance improvement and quality initiatives.
- Attend staff meetings and in-service training.
Qualifications:
- Current Physical Therapist license in the state of New Mexico.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or obtain within 30 days of hire).
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of physical therapy modalities and treatment protocols.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to make sound clinical decisions in complex situations.
- Ability to work independently with attention to detail and a positive attitude.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Ability to manage challenging patient and clinical situations professionally.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Ability to work regular hours including on-call shifts and weekends as required.
- Physically demanding high-stress healthcare environment.
- Exposure to blood body fluids communicable diseases chemicals radiation and repetitive motions.
- Ability to push pull lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Functional range of motion including lifting and positioning patients.
- Frequent reaching bending stooping handling objects speaking hearing and visual acuity.
