Description of Work

The Julian F. Keith Alcohol & Drug Abuse Treatment Center (JFK ADATC) is currently accepting applications for a Licensed Recreational Therapist. If you are seeking a meaningful career working as part of a multi-disciplinary team that positively impacts lives please consider this opportunity!

Recreational Therapists integrate treatment plans with intervention strategies in an attempt to restore remediate or rehabilitate functioning and independence of the client.

Reassessment and evaluation are consistently conducted and treatment plans are rewritten in collaboration with the treatment team.


The scope of services provided by the Recreational Therapist includes assessment of client care needs and planning and development of individualized treatment goals objectives intervention strategies and other appropriate documentation as required.

Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Working knowledge of co-occurring disorders and their implications for RT services are necessary.
  • Working knowledge of psychological functioning pathology in psychological functioning cognitive learning and motor learning that contribute to health and human functioning.
  • Considerable knowledge of RT theory principles techniques and methods with an emphasis on restoring remediation or rehabilitating physical and/or mental functioning and independence.
  • Ability to accurately administer a variety of assessment tools and to assess clients current functioning level develop treatment plans and evaluate progress as well as to determine needed services and supports according to the professional standards of RT.
  • Ability to articulate the philosophy goals and strategies of RT.

We are recruiting for two positions with this posting. Your application will be considered for both.

Work Week: Monday Friday (including some holidays and weekends as needed)

Work Hours: Flexible Day/Evening Shifts

Flexibility is required for education and training purposes and to meet the needs of the facility.

ABOUT THE FACILITY
JFK ADATC is a 68-bed inpatient treatment facility designed to meet the needs of adults with substance use disorders from the 44 westernmost counties in North Carolina. The facility treats individuals with substance abuse and psychiatric diagnoses. JFK is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations as a Behavioral Health facility and certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services as an inpatient psychiatric hospital.
