As the ACADA Senior Software Engineer/Deputy Team Coordinator you will assume a leading role in the development of a major software system for the CTAO. The CTAO Computing Array Control and Data Acquisition (ACADA) team is responsible for the software systems that control the telescope array and collect its scientific this role you will provide technical leadership throughout the full software lifecycle including implementation testing integration and deployment of the ACADA system.
You will work closely with the ACADA Coordinator subsystem developers the Assembly Integration and Verification team industry partners and other computing experts. The role also involves collaboration with systems engineering and project management teams at the CTAO Project Office in Bologna Italy as well as colleagues at the observatory sites in Chile and Spain and partner institutions worldwide.
Key responsibilities:
- Support the ACADA Coordinator in managing the ACADA work packages including schedule planning and tracking of goals
- Produce and manage system requirements specifications and use cases
- Manage technical interfaces with internal and external stakeholders
- Lead integration planning activities
- Development maintenance and communication of the ACADA system architecture to stakeholders
- Ensure quality assurance across ACADA deliverables
- Produce and maintain technical documentation
- Chair the ACADA Configuration Control Board
- Risk identification and management
- Preparation of management documentation
Qualifications and experiences:
- Degree in computer science engineering physics mathematics or a related field
- At least five years of relevant professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Expertise across multiple stages of the software lifecycle including requirements architecture design development testing integration deployment and maintenance
- Strong understanding of IT tools methodologies and platforms including scientific software environments
- Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: C Java or Python
- Solid knowledge of object-oriented design principles and design patterns
- Experience coordinating geographically distributed teams
- Ability to understand and clearly communicate complex technical and scientific concepts
- Proven ability to work effectively in an international multicultural and distributed project environment
- Excellent written and organizational skills with attention to detail and consistency
- Excellent communication skills and strong command of English
Desirable skills:
- Experience with SCADA systems used in scientific installations (e.g. TANGO EPICS ACS WinCC OA OPC UA)
- Familiarity with formal software requirements engineering and architecture specification practices
- Experience using UML and/or SysML
- Experience with observatory projects or other large-scale scientific infrastructure construction and/or operations
Contract: open-term full-time
