Job Summary
RESPONSIBILITIES
At Avenues the library is a magical place where children are surrounded by wonderful stories and literature and develop a lifelong love of reading. The librarian makes the Avenues New York library into that place building our collection of high-quality Spanish and English books and resources and ensuring that every child is deeply engaged in the joys of reading in both languages.
The librarian will:
- Develop and teach the library and media curriculum for students ages 3-10 who are in the Spanish immersion program. This includes exposure to a wide range of literature engaging read-alouds information literacy lessons and fostering students curiosity in selecting books across a variety of genres and formats.
- Work closely with the library team to build every childs love of reading and develop information literacy skills and strategies.
- Build the Avenues library of high-quality Spanish and English childrens books and enrich the curriculum with new digital and print resources.
- Collaborate with the Chinese/English Librarian and Director of Library and EdTech to continually improve the overall Avenues library library curriculum instructional practices and programming.
- Support classroom teachers and other members of the STEAM team as needed.
Qualifications :
QUALIFICATIONS
- Fluency in Spanish and English both in reading and writing
- Highly knowledgeable about literature for young children in English and Spanish
- Strong literacy instruction; experience as a teacher in primary grades preferred
- Highly effective collaborator eager to listen deeply contribute to a team and achieve goals together
- Keen interest in library and media instruction; a masters degree in library science preferred
- A remarkable entrepreneurial drive creativity and ability to bring new ideas to fruition
- Intellectual curiosity and humility to reflect welcome feedback and continually grow ones teaching practice

If hired for this position the annual salary range is between $70000 - $110000. The salary may vary depending on your experience level and skills.
