Position Title: Outreach Coordinator (Short-Term)
Company Description: NAMI San Diego & Imperial Counties (National Alliance on Mental Illness) is a nonprofit organization that provides free education support services and advocacy to improve the quality of life of everyone affected by mental health conditions.
Primary Responsibilities/Function:
The Outreach Coordinator is responsible for overseeing community outreach and engagement and the agency Volunteer Program. Works in concert with the Lead Outreach Coordinator Director of Community and Youth Services and all NAMI SD/IC Managers to ensure the integrity and accountability of community programs and relations. This is a hybrid position. The Outreach Coordinator will work remotely at their home office report to NAMI Administrative Offices located in Kearny Mesa on occasion and be out in community.
*This job is a short-term grant-funded project that is expected to end June 30 2026.*
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Represents the organization at community resource fairs outreach activities
- Supports with volunteer orientations trainings placements and tracking
- Support with expansion of In Our Own Voice and overall health of the Family and Adult Support Services Program
- Serves as a back-up for Helpline volunteers
- Follow-ups with interested volunteers who complete interest forms
- Supports in general volunteer engagement and helps plan the annual volunteer appreciation event
- Communicates effectively with community leaders to grow and support programs.
- Contributes to creating a stigma-free recovery positive person-centered trauma-informed and culturally competent professional presence in the San Diego community at large.
- Other duties as assigned.
Accountability: Reports to Director of Community and Youth Services.

Minimum Requirements:
Including linguistic and cultural skills education experiences licenses and certifications
- Reliable and consistent transportation.
- Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Proficiency with computer software (Microsoft Office: Outlook Word Excel) and web navigation.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Reliable and consistent attendance.
- Experience as a mental health care consumer for self or family member strongly preferred.
- Certified Peer Support Specialist preferred.
- A strong positive viewpoint towards mental health is essential.
- Bachelors Degree in relevant field preferred (Social Work Psychology Community Education) or equivalent work experience in the field.
- Ability and willingness to mentor and motivate volunteers through customer service skills
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations plus the ability and desire to work as part of a team.
- Occasional evenings and weekends required.
