The Position:
The Payroll Specialist will work closely with the Payroll Manager to process payroll for 850 employees at MSPCA-Angell. The Payroll Specialist will develop relationships with MSPCA-Angell management and HR teams to assist in reviewing and administering regular payroll changes and staffing updates. The MSPCA-Angell operates two 24/7 animal hospitals 4 shelters and 4 clinics). Experience with shift differentials in a 24/7 environment with multi-state employees is a plus. The Payroll Specialist will work closely with the Payroll Manager to review and process the corporate credit cards statements on a monthly basis. Strong written and oral communication skills attention to detail and the ability to problem solve are needed for this role.
The Payroll Specialist will demonstrate model and inspire all employees to embrace and live the organizational values of Compassion Integrity Collaboration Excellence Service and Positivity in carrying out day to day tasks as well as in interactions with others.
Some Duties to include:
- Process bi-weekly non-exempt payroll for 600 staff through the payroll system.
- Review code and compile all biweekly electronic time cards time reports and payroll notices for all non-exempt employees.
- Cross-train with the Payroll Manager to ensure continuity of payroll operations for 250 exempt employees; act as designated backup to process payroll during Payroll Manager absences or as needed.
- Work closely with HR staff to review pay-rate changes and cross-check payroll software accordingly collaborating with the HR team to address any discrepancies.
- Work with service directors and managers to process regular shift-differentials incentive pay and adjustments for bi-weekly payroll
- Respond to payroll emails and inquiries; serve as a payroll subject-matter expert providing information and guidance to MSPCA-Angell employees managers and supervisors on payroll-related matters

Experience: 2-5 years of payroll processing experience preferably in a large organization (500 employees). Experience with a 24/7 environment or shift differentials and hospital setting is a plus. Experience with UKG or other payroll/timekeeping software is ideal.
