The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention protection and preparation as well as the care custody and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody healthcare and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work
This position will provide administrative assistance and office management services performing diversified administrative and secretarial functions for the Director of Nursing. This position has frequent contact with all staff in various disciplines assigned to Health Services to include physicians physician extenders nursing staff mental and behavioral staff etc. This position has responsibility for general typing word processing correspondence and record management setting up and maintaining files database maintenance telephone communication as well as greeting and directing visitors and staff and other general administrative/secretarial duties. The individual will be required to manage inquiries that come to this office when the Director of Nursing is not available to ensure that important issues are referred for appropriate response. Records reports correspondence administrative memos policies and procedures will come into this office for processing. The Administrative Secretary will receive this information review it prioritize it and route for proper handling. This position routinely will process confidential and sensitive information which requires a high degree of discretion and professional sensitivity. This position will independently compose and draft letters memorandums and reports for review and signature approval by the Director of Nursing. These often include Department of Adult Correctional officials employees offenders and offenders family members members of the general public and other individuals or groups. Correspondence composed by this position may be routine in nature or confidential and varies from routine to urgent. This position is often given verbal instruction by the manager to prepare a document referencing a particular topic. A document is prepared using guidelines provided in current policy and directives and may require research before the document can be completed especially if of a legal or medical nature. This position attends all meetings. Other administrative duties may include establishing appointments making reservations and arranging transportation needs. This position also has the responsibility of locating Management Staff should they not be in the office in cases of emergencies or other situations that may arise and/or manage inquiries that come of this office to ensure that important issues are reviewed for appropriate response.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Pay Range: $39671 - $69426

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) withState Benefits.
