Job Description
The Mechanic & Field Technician is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to schedule troubleshoot repair and maintain a variety of transportation equipment according to company and DOT guidelines. These practices complement standards for safety preventative and scheduled maintenance and repair best practices.
Duties & Responsibilities (Essential functions are identified in bold and italicized text below.)
- Must work safely at all times.
- Responsible for accurate timekeeping in HR management system and submitting on time per payroll deadlines.
- Strictly follow and enforce all safety requirements and champion a safety-first culture.
- Repair and maintain all company vehicles and equipment such as trucks trailers and heavy equipment.
- Responsible for all shop maintenance and facility functions.
- Maintain all DOT maintenance tire and vehicle inspection files for compliance.
- Ensure annual DOT vehicle state and cargo tests are performed within regulatory guidelines.
- Ensure proper DOT state/annual inspection insurance documents and other necessary information are contained and up to date in the cab folder.
- Schedule all service and repair work both internally and externally.
- Maintain shop parts and tire inventories.
- Review and finalize repair orders.
- Perform mechanic skills including but not limited to mechanical electrical pneumatic hydraulic troubleshooting and repair of transportation equipment.
- Diagnose problems replace or repair parts test and adjust.
- Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
- Regular attendance at the worksite is required.
- Troubleshoot and determine appropriate cost-effective repairs; examine parts for defects and excessive wear.
- Enter and prepare monthly computer reports mileages and vehicle transfers.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
- Use a variety of hand and power tools electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties.
- Maintain effective communication with Manager of Mechanics for service and repair logistics and cost tracking.
- Perform all other duties as assigned or needed.
Position Qualifications
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Must be highly motivated and able to work independently.
- Ability to operate necessary tools equipment and diagnostic computers.
- Ability to operate forklifts and lifting equipment.
- Maintain a clean driving record to operate company vehicles.
- Comply with any additional tasks and assignments.
- Ability to work overtime as necessary.
- Ability to be a positive representative of the Company both internally and externally.
- Ability to always work with respect and cooperation with fellow employees and customers.
- Must be committed to always working safely.
Experience/Education
- High school diploma / GED or equivalent experience is required.
- Associates degree or apprenticeship in mechanical electrical or industrial maintenance is a plus.
- Requires a valid drivers license.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
Travel
- Negligible travel required.

- Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts hand tools and small to medium-sized power tool use.

- Regularly exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- This position is required to be performed at the work site during regularly scheduled hours. Physical presence at the work site is required.
