The Role in Context
The Energy Trading Intern role is an immersive high-impact internship designed to develop future energy traders and commercial professionals within the structured GreenCo trading desk environment. The intern will work closely at the Trading Desk across daily market operations trade execution support market analysis and commercial processes gaining hands-on exposure to the full lifecycle of energy trading in the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) and bilateral markets.
The internship emphasizes front-office trading support while providing structured exposure to risk performance monitoring reconciliation and settlements workflows enabling the intern to develop a holistic understanding of how a professional energy trading desk operates. This role is designed as a talent pipeline into Trading and Operations roles within the organization.
Key Duties:
- Monitoring day ahead and intra day power market conditions
- Assisting in energy scheduling dispatch analysis and market bids
- Tracking price trends demand forecast and supply dynamics
- Support contract administration activities including maintaining contract registers and key commercial terms
- Analysing energy trading risks and opportunities
- Updating trading models dashboards and performance trackers
- Assisting with market research related to regional power systems
- Supporting trading desk documentation and reporting
