What is the COVE Internship Program
We are looking for bright talented individuals at the post-secondary level interested in the marine sector who are looking to gain valuable hands-on work experience. You will be placed with a host company in the marine sector and will be working on a core project for their business. Projects areinterdisciplinaryand students will be collaborating closely with other students and staff from different disciplines.
The COVE internship is a collaboration withnumerouscompanies that are leaders in the marine and marine technologysector. We are diligent in placing students in a role with a company that is well aligned with their discipline of study skillset and future career ambitions. Canadas marine sector is growing and thriving and contributes millions of dollars to our national economy on an annual basis. COVE is seeking interns who are Canadas best and brightest to be part of this phenomenal growth.
- Open to post-secondary students across all disciplines (i.e.Environmental Sciences Statistics Engineering Computer Science Business Marketing and Communications etc.)
- Students must be actively enrolled in a post-secondary program at the time of the summer internship
- Based on the required skillsets placements are typically geared towards second-year undergraduate students and above
- Collaborative self-starter
- Have experience or an interest in the marine sector
- International students must be eligible to work in Canada and have a valid study/work permit
- 16-week full-time paid (min. $22/hr) employment from May-August 2026
- Project-based learning opportunity with a host company in Nova Scotia
- Professional development sessions
- Mentorship from industry professionals
The Opportunity:
We are seeking a highly skilled Development Intern to join our team at BlueGrid. As Development Intern you will work closely with our software development and technical team to continuously ensure the successful design and implementation of our data monitoring solution(s) within the marine vessel environment as it relates to our BlueGrid services. The Development Intern role provides continuity between BlueGrid personnel working in the field to deploy our marine insights product solution and our development team producing successful software solutions that can be utilized by BlueGrids end customers.
What you will be doing:
- Work closely with theBlueGridInsights team to deploy vessel and grid monitoring solutions.
- Serve as a technical resource as it relates to data monitoring aboard marine vessels.
- Develop an understanding of simple aswell as complex data collection deployments within a marine mechanical environment.
- Be able to configure and test a range of marine data collection instrumentation.
- Support conducting site visits as well as marine vessel surveys for the purposes of requirements gathering and refining.
- Participatein discussions related to data monitoring solution design.
- Manage internal dashboards and conduct continuous quality checks on incoming data.
- Support new feature development within theBlueGridplatform.
- Support with data monitoring deployment proposals.
- Document technical specifications for insightsmonitoringsolutions.
What you will bring:
- Some knowledge and / or experience related to marine equipment is considered an asset.
- Some knowledge and / or experience with data collection hardware and instrumentation.
- Some back end as well as front end software development experience is helpful.
- Working towards BS degree in Computer Science or other related areas where you can bring value to the development team.
- Knowledge of various software languages ability to learn some new ones.
- Strong communication skills.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team to deliver quality results.
- Want to make a difference through decarbonizing initiatives.
