Big-D Construction a National General Contractor of award-winning projects built by exceptional people has a Concrete Intern opportunity located in Salt Lake City UT.

Summary:

This internship gives high school students a chance to learn what its like to work on a real construction site. Youll get hands-on experience help the jobsite team with safe and approved tasks and see how different construction careers work.

Experience/Training:

  • No experience required/entry level.

Requirements:

  • Must be 1618 years old and on track to graduate high school.
  • Must be currently enrolled in or have previously completed an industry-related course.
  • Must be enrolled in a high school internship class as required by the school district.
  • Must have enough availability to participate one full school day per A/B schedule.
  • Must have reliable transportation; a drivers license preferred but not required

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to follow verbal directions and adapt to changing tasks.
  • Ability to adhere to strict safety and quality control measures
  • Ability to read and understand safety signs basic instructions and tool handling guidance.

Duties Responsibilities and Expectations: (other duties may be assigned to meet business needs)

  • Assist craftworkers with non-hazardous observation-based learning tasks such as preparing materials shadowing workflows and learning trade fundamentals.
  • Perform general housekeeping tasks to help maintain a clean and organized job site.
  • Remove ice and snow from worksites and walkways.
  • Clean scrape stack sort and band construction materials
  • Assist with loading and unloading light materials that can be handled manually without mechanized equipment.
  • May assist with installation of non-hazardous protection materials (floors covering walls protection dust barriers etc.) completion of minor punch list items and minor touch-up and other daily items that might arise due to project conditions schedule and needs from project management.
  • Performs repairs on existing structures and repairs cracks defects or damage in installed building materials.
  • Applies adhesives caulking sealants or coatings.
  • Climb ladders concrete formwork or any other structures necessary and access elevated areas.
  • Must follow all company safety rules OSHA safety guidelines and youth labor restrictions and wear required personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Regular timely and predictable attendance is required for this position.
  • Performs other duties as determined and required by project need.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit talk and/or listen. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger handle or employee is required to reach with hands and employee is required to climb balance stoop kneel crouch and/or employee must also lift and/or move up to 50 employee may be required to lift heavy objects in awkward positions that require flexible range of vision abilities include close vision and peripheral employee is also required to frequently inspect the project and will be exposed to ongoing construction and various weather conditions including rain sleet snow wind and heat. The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to employee is also required to frequently walk on uneven surfaces. Safety requirements necessitate no language barrier exists between employees and supervisors.
