The PA Board of Law Examiners an appointed Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania responsible for overseeing the bar admissions process is looking for an Assistant Director.
In partnership with the Executive Director the Assistant Director has hands-on responsibility for the daily administrative activities of the Board. This employee will participate in all aspects of the bar admissions process including planning and administering the bar examination and researching and developing bar admission standards. Assignments will include reviewing bar examinee requests for testing accommodations evaluating educational sufficiency of foreign-educated applicants reviewing contracts staffing for exam developing implementation plans and management of board staff graders and proctors. Other duties include investigating and evaluating character and fitness and qualifications for bar admission drafting/editing recommendations preparing files and administrative materials for Board meetings drafting rule recommendations and proposed amendments and preparing budget projections. Position includes developing an understanding of testing techniques standards for minimum competency and researching and analyzing effective work methods and procedures.
This individual will interact with the Supreme Court Justices board members senior management of other court agencies executive directors from other jurisdictions the National Conference of Bar Examiners and numerous contractors and vendors. The AD will be directly involved in sensitive issues regarding the Court Board applicants; will supervise staff in both the testing and character and fitness areas; and will supervise all support functions of the office in the absence of the Executive Director.
Working Conditions / Notable Physical Requirements
Primarily work on computer.
Semi-annual administration of the bar exam requires doing light manual labor to pack and unpack materials; performing set-up and tear-down at the exam site; walking 10000 to 15000 steps a day at the exam site; lifting/moving items up to 20 pounds; standing for long periods of time and bending to the floor.
Mandatory (reimbursed in-state travel; overnight stays for bar exams and semi-annual calibration meetings. Ability to drive up to 4 hours.
Minimum Qualifications
Admission to the Pennsylvania bar and six or more years of progressively responsible experience in legal/management/administrative work.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills organization ability and interpersonal skills.
Satisfactory criminal background check required.
