Job Summary

Purpose of the Role :

Are you passionate about transforming the educational journey for young people facing challenges We are seeking a dynamic Youth Engagement and Support Specialist who thrives on turning obstacles into this role youll be the catalyst for change helping students who struggle with learning social or emotional barriers to rediscover their love for education. Your mission will be to inspire and empower these young minds fostering growth in their social skills emotional resilience and academic achievements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead with Impact: Design and implement engaging activities tailored for students who are disengaged with learning reigniting their enthusiasm and curiosity.
  • Communicate with Clarity: Serve as the key liaison among school staff parents and external professionals. Ensure all efforts are seamlessly integrated into a comprehensive support plan for each student.
  • Track Progress: Maintain meticulous records with daily updates for tutors and weekly reports for subject leads. Use this data to drive focused discussions in pupil progress meetings.
  • Collaborative Planning: Work alongside Subject Leads SENCO and SLT to pinpoint the most challenging cases. Develop and execute personalised support and intervention programs and assess their effectiveness regularly.
  • Resource Management: Identify and secure essential resources and tools for use by learning mentors ensuring the availability of effective support mechanisms across the school.
  • External Networking: Forge and maintain connections with relevant external agencies to enhance support programs and provide targeted interventions.
  • Emotional Literacy Development: Cultivate emotional intelligence among your caseload especially through group and 1:1 sessions. Collaborate with the PSHE team to deliver impactful PSHE lessons.
  • Professional Growth: Stay abreast of the latest courses materials and development opportunities to continuously enhance your expertise.

Requirements

  • Independent Support: Provide tailored support to individuals and groups as directed by senior staff adapting to the specific needs of each student.
  • Day-to-Day Support: Offer structured support during key times of the school day including arrival breaks and lunch working in harmony with the wider staff team.
  • Child Protection: Assist in maintaining robust child protection systems and with training take on the role of Deputy DSL to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students.
  • Transition Facilitation: Represent St Matthias Academy at the Bristol Inclusion & Fair Access Panel supporting smooth transitions for students moving to and from our school.
  • Mental Health Leadership: Lead mental health initiatives within the academy contributing to the planning and delivery of related sessions and support.

St Matthias Academy is a small nurturing education community with three sites across Bristol and BathFishponds for KS3 & KS4 Brentry for KS3 and Rush Hill for KS3 & KS4. We work with young people who have often become disillusioned with education but this feeling changes quickly once they join our school.

At St Matthias Academy we focus on personalised learning journeys that empower each student to achieve academic success and build the confidence and skills needed to overcome personal challenges. Our goal is to help pupils develop a positive attitude toward learning allowing them to thrive grow and succeed.
