POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Plant Manager the Labourer (Summer Student) is responsible for performing a variety of general labour and equipment handling tasks. This includes inspecting cleaning and filling totes drums and pails. The role is physically demanding and highly variable requiring adaptability and attention to safety protocols.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- General Labour and Miscellaneous Duties
- Move pails of admixture (4488 lbs) using a dolly; up to 20 pails per batch.
- Label pails drums and totes for shipment and non-shipment purposes.
- Perform housekeeping tasks such as sweeping and waste disposal using shovels and brooms.
- Assist management by reporting nonconformances and supporting team operations.
- Adapt to daily task variations based on operational needs.
- Emptying Cleaning and Filling Totes
- Safely remove residual chemicals from totes using hoses and suction systems.
- Wear PPE including rubber gloves and safety goggles during chemical handling.
- Drain remaining fluid using a manual lever and tip totes manually (requires 66 lbs of force).
- Clean totes with water and refill with designated mixtures.
- Use torque bar to fix structural issues in totes.
- Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications :
QUALIFICATIONS
- Computer proficiency and comfort learning new systems.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel Word etc.); prior experience is an asset.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to identify errors or concerns in Sikas products or procedures.
- Effective time management: able to prioritize tasks and adapt quickly to changing business needs.
WORKING CONDITIONS/ PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Work Environment: Duties are performed both indoors and outdoors requiring the ability to adapt to varying temperatures and weather conditions.
- Strength Requirements: Classified as Heavy Work.
- Lifting: Ability to lift and carry items up to 100 lbs (e.g. pails tires).
- Repetitive Movements: Frequent bending reaching gripping and handling of tools hoses and suction systems.
- Mobility: Requires walking distances up to 300 ft standing for prolonged periods and occasional crouching or kneeling.
- Postures: May involve awkward or sustained postures during cleaning and maintenance tasks.
- Equipment Use: Regular use of torque bars hand tools hoses and dollies.
- Work Surfaces: Exposure to wet dirty and slippery surfaces.
- PPE & Clothing: Company-issued uniform provided. Safety glasses and steel-toe boots are mandatory at all times.
- Hearing Protection: May be required in designated highnoise areas.
- Chemical Handling: Involves working with various chemicals (e.g. liquid admixtures); proper respirator fit and usage is required. Respirator is provided.
- Physical Activity: Frequent standing and walking throughout the shift.
- Safety Awareness: Must be able to work safely in proximity to moving machinery and equipment.
Hours of Work: Overtime may be required based on operational needs.
