Job Summary

Job Summary

The Safety Manager is responsible for managing all safety programs and ensuring compliance with federal state and local regulations for fleet operations. Reporting to senior management this role ensures a culture of safety both in the office and on the road and ensures protocols are consistently executed.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in fleet safety or transportation operations.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. regulations including Highway Traffic laws FMCSA rules Drug and Alcohol programs and permitting.
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage driver training and orientation programs
  • Ability to foster a safety-first culture and collaborate effectively with business operations.
  • Self-directed decisive and able to manage crisis situations effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills.
  • Collaboration with maintenance and operations.

The Successful Candidate Will:

  • Manage and lead safety staff.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry rules and regulations (FMCSA DOT HOSWCB).
  • Actively liaise with the maintenance department to ensure compliance.
  • Oversee internal safety programs and work directly with Operations Management.
  • Coordinate and manage regulatory audits
  • Engage directly with drivers to promote safety compliance.
  • Utilize strong dispute-resolution skills when addressing safety concerns.
  • Advise on investigations and reporting of accidents incidents and non-conformances recommending corrective actions.
  • Strong understanding of fleet insurance needs and representation as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College/University degree in Occupational Safety Transportation or related field.
  • Professional safety certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Director of Safety (CDS).
  • CDL (Commercial Drivers License) or prior road experience is an asset.
  • Experience with US insurance programs and the ability to work with external and internal legal counsel
  • Experience with using in cab technology and telematics is an asset
