Why Highway Safety Office

Summer is peak season for highway safety campaignsthink 100 Safest Days of Summer community events and high-profile activations. We need someone who can juggle eventlogistics create compelling social content and keep our campaigns running smoothly during the busiest time of year.

The Project: Highway Safety Office Outreach & Communications

Support DMVs highway safety campaigns through event execution social media and program coordination.

Youllrotate between threemain areas: field events digital content creation and campaign operations.

What Youll Actually Do:

Outreach & Event Support (The Fun Part):

  • Support speed ladder demonstrations (3 launches planned for summer 2026)

  • Work NASCAR events with Ross Chastain

  • Staff community safety tables and awareness campaigns

  • Run eventlogistics setup and on-site coordination

  • Engage directly with the public at activations

  • Capture photos videos and content for recaps

  • Track event metrics and support reporting

Social Media & Content Creation:

  • Draft social posts aligned with active safety campaigns

  • Create graphics with evergreen highway safety messaging

  • Maintaineditorial calendar coordinating with campaign timelines

  • Gather content from events and partner activations

  • Keep safety messagingtimelyand consistent across channels

Campaign Operations & Support:

  • Track materials deadlines and approvals for outreach activities

  • Organize event supplies andmaintainpromotional inventory

  • Coordinate meeting notes and campaign planning follow-ups

  • Support program managers during peak outreach season often through attending events

Your Portfolio When Youre Done:

  • Social media content with engagement metrics

  • Event photography and video from high-profile activations

  • Graphics and digital assets you created

  • Documented experience at NASCAR and community events

  • Campaign coordination andlogisticsexperience

The Reality:This is peak and youwontbe bored. Some daysyourecreating content at your desk; other daysyoureat a NASCAR event or setting up a speed ladder demo. If you like variety and action this is your internship.

Minimum Qualifications

At least 18 years of age at the start of employment/internship
As of May 2026 must have completed at least 2 semesters (24 credit hours) and be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a two or four-year college/university
Recent graduates (May 2026 or December 2025) are also eligible to apply
Possess a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale (exceptions can apply in extenuating circumstances)
Strong communication presentation and organizational skills
Excellent interpersonal and customer relationship skills
Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Microsoft Word Excel PowerPoint and Teams)
Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills
Must be able to work at least 40 hours per week during the summer internship program
Must be able to work on-site

Additional Considerations

Recently graduated with an associates or bachelors degree in December 2025 or May 2026 OR as of May 2026 completed at least 4 semesters (48 credit hours) and be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a two or four-year college/university in Marketing Public Relations Communications or Journalism.

Comfortable both behind a computer and in front of crowds
