We are looking for a Lead Robotics Engineer who thrives on the challenge of moving technology out of the lab and into the rugged world of industrial automation. You have a proven track record of professional experience and are ready to take a leadership role in our R&D and product development efforts. The ideal candidate has navigated the complexities of dynamic small teams and understands exactly what it takes to turn a robotic concept into a robust commissioned system operating in a real production environment.
About MESH
MESH is automating rebar fabrication and construction processes using robotics and software. Our mission is to bring modern robotics and industrial-grade automation to one of the most fragmented and under-invested industries enabling faster safer and more precise construction through systems that integrate seamlessly into existing workflows.
We design and deploy robotic solutions that operate in harsh real-world production environments not labs or demos. Our work spans mechanical systems robotics software and industrial automation with a strong focus on robustness simplicity and deployability.
MESH is based in Switzerland with in-house workshops and robot testing facilities. We work closely with partners across the construction and machinery ecosystem and regularly test our systems in production and on-site environments. We value close collaboration and hands-on engineering and primarily work on-site with our hardware.
Tasks
About the Role
As a Lead Robotics Engineer you will architect the software frameworks and control strategies that power our robotic products. This is a role with deep ownership: you arent just writing code; you are defining the technical roadmap and leading a team of engineers to execute it.
You will bridge the gap between high-level software development and physical hardware execution. Your work will ensure that our systems are not only intelligent but also reliable enough to run 24/7 in a rebar fabrication plant. You will be responsible for the full lifecyclefrom selecting sensor modalities to overseeing the final deployment of multi-robot cells.
What Youll Be Working On
You will lead the development and testing of robotic systems used for rebar handling processing (quality control tying welding) and auxiliary equipment.
Your work will include:
- Computer Vision: Developing and refining computer vision pipelines for robust object detection and manipulation in variable lighting/dusty environments.
- Motion Planning: Implementing advanced (multi-)robotic motion planning to ensure collision-free high-speed operation in complex cells.
- Architecture: Designing a modular and scalable robotics stack that allows for rapid iteration and deployment across different product lines.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Guiding a small team of engineers providing technical mentorship and ensuring project milestones are met.
- Strategic Decision Making: Evaluating trade-offs between hardware and software solutions to solve complex automation problems.
- Sensor Integration: Evaluating and implementing sensor suites (3D vision force-torque etc.) to enhance robot perception and reactive behavior.
- Productization: Ensuring all R&D efforts result in production-ready code and hardware that can be maintained and serviced.
- Collaboration: Working closely with Mechatronics and Sales teams to ensure our technical developments align with customer needs.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelors or Masters degree in Robotics Computer Science Mechatronics or a related field.
- Experience: At least 3 years of professional experience in robotics with a track record of deploying software on physical hardware.
- Software Stack: Deep proficiency in C Python and ROS/ROS2 within a Linux/Docker environment. Knowledgeable about software engineering best practices.
- Robotics Fundamentals: Strong understanding of state estimation motion planning and control theory.
- AI & Vision: Practical experience with Deep Learning frameworks (PyTorch/TensorFlow) and computer vision libraries (OpenCV).
- Industrial Hardware: Experience deploying and debugging software on industrial manipulators (ideally ABB/Rapid) and 3D vision systems.
- Mindset: A ship-to-production mentalityyou value reliability and robustness over academic complexity.
- Languages: Working proficiency in English; German and/or French is a strong plus.
