University College invites qualified individuals to apply for a part-time non-tenure-track teaching position for IDS 128 Thriving in College Career and Beyond.

IDS 128 (THRIVE) is a 3-credit hour course designed to assist first-year students in any field of study with successfully transitioning from high school to college and career. Through instructor guidance this course will focus on student self-exploration and reflection habits of successful and well students connecting to campus resources exploring and preparing for educational and career goals and identifying and strengthening career-ready and executive functioning skills.
The Thrive instructor works in collaboration with the Curriculum Services faculty and staff as well as other staff members of University College and Illinois State University including academic advisors and campus constituents to increase student persistence and success.
Instructor duties include:
Be directly responsible for the facilitation of one class section of IDS 128 Thriving in College Career and Beyond
Complete pre-semester and ongoing training
Hold weekly scheduled office hours
Attend each 50 minute class session (i.e. three days a week M/W/F) and hold a one-on-one meeting with each student throughout the semester
Be responsible for ensuring that attendance is correctly taken for each class and reported in Canvas
Be responsible for grading all assignments and correctly submitting grades/feedback in Canvas
Complete and submitting Early Alert Progress Report and Final grades
University College helps students successfully transition to Illinois State University achieve their educational goals and realize their academic potential in the first year and beyond.
Starting at $1250 per month based on Part Time Equivalent for a 3-credit hour course.
1. Bachelors Degree
2. Prior experience teaching tutoring or facilitating educational development sessions
3. Excellent interpersonal skills including listening communication and teamwork and a commitment to student success
4. Must be able to work independently and without intense supervision but also effectively contribute to an instructional team with a learner-centered and service-oriented philosophy
5. Demonstrated experience in working with students faculty departmental staff and campus administrators as well as off-campus contacts
6. State law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in English as a requirement for this position
1. Masters Degree
2. College-level teaching or tutoring experience
3. Prior experience working with First-time in College (FTIC) students
4. Employed by ISU or previously employed by ISU
5. Understand the challenges facing college students today
6. Strong knowledge of the ISU campus including culture resources and disciplines
