The Opportunity
Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor the Maintenance Person is responsible for carrying out material and equipment installations renovations repairs and servicing in the following areas - carpentry plumbing heating basic electrical painting ventilation on properties under the jurisdiction of NSPHA.
What youll do
Responsibilities
- Maintain properties under the jurisdiction of NSPHA including maintenance and repairs of walks driveways and parking areas.
- Carry out assessment and preventative maintenance to all assigned buildings appliances fixtures utilities and equipment in accordance with established standards policies and procedures.
- Maintain and repair all aspects of the building envelope of NSPHA properties.
- Prepare and complete documentation such as work orders vehicle reports maintenance logs inspection reports and inventory records.
- Repair vacant units to make them rent-ready.
- Recommend the replacement or acquisition of equipment and materials.
What youll need
Qualifications
Must Have
- Grade 12 plus five years of experience in building and property maintenance or a related field is required. Must be able to perform standard tasks in carpentry plumbing heating painting and drywall.
- Knowledge of residential building technology basic knowledge of National Building Code and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Ability to operate electrical tools mechanical tools and perform physical tasks using good body mechanics.
- Ability to exercise tact diplomacy sound judgment and initiative when investigating questioning and dealing with inquiries requests and submissions.
- Possess a valid Nova Scotia drivers license and a good driving record.
Nice to Have
- First Aid and WHMIS certifications.
- Knowledge of computer systems

The successful candidate will be required to participate in an on-call rotation to support operational needs outside regular business hours.
This position requires a valid drivers license and use of a work vehicle. Travel within HRM County is required.
