ROLE: The Communications Outreach Specialist plays a critical role in advancing Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacys mission by increasing public awareness of our civil legal services and deepening engagement with the communities we serve. This position is responsible for developing and executing outreach and communications strategies that connect clients partners donors and the broader community to our work in health care access public benefits immigration housing stability tax issues and economic security.
Working closely with the Advancement and Program teams the Communications Outreach Specialist will translate complex legal issues into clear compelling messages; amplify client-centered stories; and ensure consistent inclusive and mission-aligned communications across platforms. The ideal candidate is a strong writer thoughtful storyteller and proactive collaborator who is passionate about social justice and community impact.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Communications and Content Development
- Create clear engaging and accessible content for digital and print platforms including website updates newsletters videos social media posts flyers and program materials
- Translate complex legal and policy information into audience-appropriate messaging
- Support storytelling efforts by highlighting client impact program successes and community partnerships (with appropriate confidentiality and consent)
Community Outreach and Engagement
- Coordinate outreach efforts to increase awareness of civil legal services among clients community partners and referral sources
- Represent the organization at community events resource fairs and partner meetings as needed
- Co-lead annual Back to School Bash in conjunction with Advancement Specialist and summer interns
- Develop outreach materials tailored to diverse audiences including multilingual and culturally responsive content when appropriate
Digital and Social Media Management
- Manage and maintain social media channels including content planning posting and engagement
- Track basic analytics to assess reach and effectiveness and adjust strategies accordingly
- Support email communications and campaigns in collaboration with the Advancement team
Brand and Message Alignment
- Ensure all communications reflect Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacys mission values and brand voice
- Maintain consistency across programs while adapting messaging to specific audiences
- Assist with the Intranet and with internal communications as needed to support staff alignment and awareness
- Draft/update communications policies together with the Chief Philanthropy Officer and Chief Executive Officer
Collaboration and Support
- Work cross-functionally with program staff to identify outreach opportunities and communication needs
- Support Advancement initiatives through campaign messaging event promotion and donor-facing communications
- Contribute ideas and strategies to strengthen overall communications and outreach efforts
- Assist with special projects and other departmental responsibilities as needed
Other Duties
- Perform other tasks as assigned by Chief Philanthropy Officer or Chief Executive Officer
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in communications journalism public relations or a related field
- A minimum of three years of experience in communications strategy development strongly preferred
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Bilingual with proficiency in Spanish highly preferred
- Effective team player with excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate diplomatically and professionally with a wide variety of constituencies
- Outgoing and comfortable talking to diverse audiences
- Strong ability to effectively juggle competing time-sensitive priorities
- Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite Canva Microsoft Office WordPress and other related technology platforms
- Availability to support occasional weekend and after-hours events
- Passion for social justice and the mission and vision of Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy
WORK SCHEDULE:
Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy supports a hybrid work schedule with core work hours Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm.
SALARY:
This position is a full-time salary-exempt position. The annual salary range begins at $50000 and may vary depending on experience and skills.
REPORTS TO: The Communications Outreach Specialist will report to the Chief Philanthropy Officer.
