Overview:

Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Tech (PCT)for Cornell 3 our Medical Surgical Unit. This is a full time day shift in Charlottesville VA. One of the best staffed Medical/Surgical units in the state!

Hours:7AM to 7PM- Three 12-hour shifts (36-hours per week) with rotating weekends.

Department/Position Overview:

Cornell 3 is a 24-bed medical-surgical unit focused on gastrointestinal care addressing conditions like gallbladder diseases appendicitis bowel obstructions and procedures such as colon resections and ostomy creation. The unit also cares for patients with sepsis respiratory issues and diabetes complications maintaining a patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:5 to 1:6 for personalized care. It is an ideal environment for both experienced nurses and new graduates seeking skill development. Cornell 3 promotes a collaborative atmosphere with a multidisciplinary team and supports professional growth blending the resources of a major medical center with a community hospitals warmth aiming to make a meaningful difference in patient lives.

The Patient Care Technician provides patient care support independent and dependent activities of daily living vital signs mobility and ambulation phlebotomy point of care testing EKG testing peripheral IV removal specimen collection and foley catheter insertion and removal and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse. Observe patients physical mental and emotional conditions and document in a timely and accurate manner while reporting any change to the nurse or medical staff.

Education:

• HS High School Grad or Equivalent

• One of the following programs: Sentara Care Partner Certification Program successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT) completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School Emergency Services to include EMR EMS EMT AEMT and Paramedic or current student enrolled in a clinical program having completed at least one semester of a (RN LPN RT or PT) or current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.

Certifications/Licensure:

• AHA BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

Experience:

• One year of health care experience is preferred.
