DescriptionLower School Spanish Teacher
Tower Hill School is seeking a Lower School Spanish Teacher to begin in August 2026. The Tower Hill Language Department adheres to a communicative and student-centered approach to modern language instruction. Candidates must possess native or near-native proficiency in Spanish be able to teach beginner level courses to students in our Preschool through 4th grades and show a commitment to and comfort with maximizing the use of the target language in the addition to expertise in language teaching the ideal candidate demonstrates a cultural awareness that encompasses the complex historical political and social realities of the non English-speaking world. This is a full-time benefitted 10-month position.
Responsibilities:
- Teaching Lower School Spanish classes (Tots/age 3 through 4th grade)
- Collaborating regularly with language department colleagues to evaluate pacing and curriculum
- Assisting with student supervision and chaperoning outside the classroom
- Completing skill based progress reports twice/year
- Utilizing a variety of pedagogical approaches and instructional technologies to enhance students language acquisition and cultural competence
- Participating in department and faculty meetings as well as school-sponsored professional development
- Meeting the Essential Expectations required of all teachers
QualificationsDesired credentials qualities and skills:
- Experience and demonstrated interest in teaching Elementary age students
- Bachelors degree in Spanish Education or related field
- Experience teaching Spanish at the elementary or secondary level (three or more years of teaching experience preferred)
- Understanding of or interest in learning about and adopting communicative skills proficiency orientation including use of immersion instruction and/or FLES program practices
- Ability to manage and oversee a busy classroom of up to 18 students
- Sensitivity to the developmental stages and well-being of children
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Experience with a variety of digital media and interactive teaching tools (ex: Smartboard)
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
- Strong communication skills both verbal and non-verbal
- Enthusiasm for professional growth academic excellence and creative teaching
- Ability to plan and organize educational content
- Commitment to broad participation in school life
- Experience in and commitment to the ongoing development and maintenance of an inclusive campus community
- A growth mindset and desire to stay current in contemporary pedagogical thinking strategies and techniques through further education reading workshops conferences etc.
- A positive enthusiastic flexible and warm personality with a passion for creating a love of learning in all students
