Full-time Work Schedule
Monday- Friday 40 hours per week
Position: Safety & Risk Management and Workers Compensation Unit Intern
Location: Hybrid-313 Chapanoke Road Raleigh NC.
Internship Duration: 10-week internship (May 26 2026 to July 31 2026)
About the Internship:
Join a team of dedicated professionals in the Safety & Risk Management (SRM) and Workers Compensation Unit at NCDOT. This internship offers hands-on experience supporting occupational safety employee well-being and workers compensation processes with an added focus on safety communication and resource development. Interns will gain insight into how safety and risk management initiatives are planned implemented and communicated across a large organization while working in a collaborative and supportive environment.
Focus Areas:
Business operations within safety and risk management
Drug and alcohol programs supporting workplace compliance
Employee safety initiatives training and safety communications
Workers compensation processes and administrative support
Development of safety planning and inspection resources
Ideal Candidate:
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented student pursuing studies in Occupational Safety & Health Digital Design Business or a related field. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in workplace safety organizational planning and safety communications. Experience or coursework in safety risk management or digital design is preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
Create and maintain SRM Safety Calendars and SRM Safety Planners to support safety awareness and scheduling
Assist in developing SRM Pre-Trip Inspection Books and other safety reference materials
Support safety and risk management projects aimed at improving protocols and workflows
Assist the Workers Compensation Unit with case management documentation and reporting
Conduct research and compile data to support safety initiatives and training efforts
Collaborate with team members to identify assess and mitigate workplace risks
Participate in regular feedback sessions and Q&A opportunities with the supervisor

Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be a currently enrolled full-time student in a bachelors masters or professional level program at an accredited or recently graduated from a North Carolina Historically Black College/University (HBCU) or Minority Serving Institution (MSI) within the past year.
- 24 credit hours completed.
- Minimum overall GPA of 2.5 (on 4.0 scale)
- Has legal right to work in the U.S. and do not need sponsorship
