We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Database Developer with a minimum of 6 years of experience to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database design development optimization and performance tuning. A key requirement for this role is knowledge of any of the NYC Department of Education systems such as Accessible Tool for Learning About Students (ATLAS) application or SESIS (Special Education Student Information System or CAP Legacy system (Child Assistance Program or Child Assessment Program). You will work closely with cross-functional teams to create and maintain efficient secure and scalable database solutions that support business operations.Key Responsibilities:- Database Design & Development: Design develop and implement database systems based on customer requirements. Work closely with project stakeholders to define database requirements and design specifications.
- Performance Optimization: Optimize database systems for performance efficiency. Conduct performance tuning and implement best practices to improve response times and resource utilization.
- Documentation: Prepare design specifications functional documentation and user guides for assigned database projects.
- Space Management & Capacity Planning: Perform space management and capacity planning for database systems to ensure optimal performance and resource utilization.
- Data Integrity: Ensure data quality and integrity by implementing best practices and regularly auditing the database systems for accuracy and compliance.
- Development of Database Objects: Develop database tables dictionaries complex functions scripts stored procedures and triggers to support application development and business logic.
- Back-up and Recovery: Perform regular data and system back-ups ensuring that database recovery procedures are in place and tested.
- Testing & Bug Fixing: Test databases and resolve any issues related to database functionality performance and security. Implement bug fixes and perform continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with team members stakeholders and other departments to ensure seamless integration of database systems with other enterprise applications.
Required Skills & Experience:- Experience: 6 years in database development and design.
- Knowledge of any of the NYC Department of Education systems such as Accessible Tool for Learning About Students (ATLAS) application or SESIS (Special Education Student Information System or CAP Legacy system (Child Assistance Program or Child Assessment Program).
- Databases: Strong knowledge of SQL Server and Redis database management systems.
- Reporting & Visualization: Proficiency in Cognos HTML Grids and HTML Charts for reporting and visualization.
- Operating Systems: Expertise in working with Windows operating systems.
- Database Optimization: Expertise in database performance tuning and optimization techniques.
- Scripting & Stored Procedures: Strong experience in developing complex scripts stored procedures triggers and database functions.
- Data Quality & Integrity: Deep understanding of data quality management and ensuring data integrity within the database systems.
Education & Certification:- A degree in Computer Science Information Technology or a related field is preferred.
- Relevant certifications in SQL Server or Database Management are a plus.
Additional Skills (Preferred but Not Required):- Experience with cloud-based databases or other database management platforms.
- Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD practices for database deployments.
- Knowledge of NoSQL databases or additional reporting tools is a plus.
