Job Summary

The System Engineer role for the College of Arts & Sciences is critical to support faculty and student-facing services as part of a team providing technology support and consultation to faculty and staff. The scope of support responsibilities includes system design planning implementing and maintaining a functional and secure systems environments. Collaborating on server projects and maintenance systems integrations testing configuration setup networking preventative maintenance security troubleshooting inventorying repair development and assessment of technologies; including but not limited to servers storage area networks network switches desktop and laptop computers tablets smartphones printers e-mail and calendaring and line-of-business applications recommending optimum equipment and software configurations and providing technical guidance with regard to proper data processing methods performance standards security measures and systems analysis.

Additionally this position will coordinate closely with the Technology Support Center and other campus IT units. This position also serves as a mentor to student technicians by providing assistance with training monitoring and appropriately utilizing the student staff in day-to-day operations.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$54000 - $59000 annual

Required Qualifications

1. Valid Drivers License.
2. Bachelors degree in Information Assurance and Security.
3. Two (2) years of professional level work experience troubleshooting Windows Mac and iOS operating systems in a networked environment.
4. Experience administering and troubleshooting SharePoint.
5. Demonstrated knowledge of System Administration fundamentals including Windows Server OS Hyper-V Active Directory Group Policy Storage Area Networks DFS Print Servers including PaperCut and similar.
6. A strong technical aptitude with an understanding of computer hardware operating systems endpoint imaging and software founded in hands-on experience.
7. Knowledge of network technologies and concepts including TCP/IP DHCP DNS VLAN and Active Directory.
8. Demonstrated ability to support other discipline specific software commonly used at ISU like SPSS ArcGIS Mathematica MATLAB Maple Intergraph GE Healthcare Flexnet Harris Geospatial EViews and similar.
9. Demonstrated ability to research test install troubleshoot and maintain new software operating systems printers and hardware.
10. Ability to create and maintain accurate and effective documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience working in a higher education environment.
2. Experience or coursework in web development.
3. Familiarity with disciplines in CAS and their information technology needs.
4. Demonstrated ability to follow established procedures even in high-pressure and time-sensitive situations.
5. Experience providing helpdesk like service.
6. Microsoft Azure Fundamentals certification.

Work Hours

Core work hours are Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm. Regularly planned and unplanned/emergency weekend and evening hours as business needs dictate.

4. Ability to frequently lift objects up to 40 lbs.

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score.
