WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT DIVISION / WILDLIFE CONTRACTS / PHOENIX AZ BASED
TEMPORARY APPOINTMENT / Full Time / End by 06/05/2026

Under general supervision duties will include performing a variety of technical and entry level professional wildlife work in support of biologists and project administrators conducting various field work with an emphasis on plants.
Primary duties will include surveying for endangered plants according to strict protocols; general vegetation surveys; and surveying for a variety of rare native and invasive plant species throughout addition duties may include data entry basic gear maintenance hauling and assembling field equipment coordination with clients including arranging access to military lands processing camera imagery and assisting with other wildlife surveys as needed. This position will require the successful candidate to spend a great deal of time in the field with assignments that may require extended periods (up to 8 days) working and residing in primitive field conditions hiking and camping in the Arizona heat. The project timeline is February 2026 to end by June 5 2026.
| Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSAs): |
The candidate will have knowledge of wildlife and plant science; plant identification and survey methodology; job related federal state and agency regulations policies and procedures; and scientific data collection procedures. Skills include basic plant and wildlife survey methodology. The candidate must be able to navigate remote unmarked terrain and use a variety of field equipment (e.g. GPS units maps tablets ArcGIS software and cameras) and must be able to write and communicate effectively. The candidate will be able to conduct surveys during all times of the day and occasionally at night hiking and driving a 4x4 truck in remote conditions. The candidate will have the ability to interact with the public and apply public relations; work alone and as part of a team; and hike backpack and/or camp overnight for extended periods of time while keeping a positive attitude.
The preferred candidate will have a bachelors degree in the biological sciences or a closely related field from an accredited college or university. The preferred candidate will have prior experience surveying for endangered plants identifying and surveying for rare and invasive plant species and working cheerfully in primitive field conditions. The preferred candidate may also be trained in Mexican spotted owl surveys.

Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license record checks must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R.11).
