The Associate Director Wellness and Health Promotion reports to the AVP for Campus Health and Wellness and Director of Emerson Wellness Center. The Associate Director is responsible for providing campus health and wellness education programs initiatives and services for undergraduate and graduate students. The Associate Director provides evidence-based prevention and health promotion programming on topics including substance abuse stress management nutrition healthy relationships sexual health mental health prevention and advocacy. This important role requires extensive knowledge of collegiate student health and wellness issues as well as excellent organizational and collaboration skills.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Activate collaboration of campus-wide stakeholders in developing a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach to improving student health and well-being.
  • Contribute to a healthy campus community that actively encourages and supports all students to learn and grow academically socially and emotionally.
  • Lead efforts to address connections between culture identity and belonging as determinants of health for a diverse student population.
  • Advocate for wellbeing as a core value of the institution and as an essential proponent of student success and retention.
  • Work closely with the other Associate Directors and AVP/Director of the Wellness Center to make broader decisions about departmental goals and development.
  • Provide wellness consultation to the Los Angeles and Netherlands campuses.
  • Apply knowledge of program cycle (assessment program planning implementation and evaluation) to support changes at multiple levels.
  • Address health issues at all levels of the socio-ecological model and develop measurable. goals and objectives to improve student health outcomes.
  • Co-lead the colleges Alcohol and Other Drug Collaborative.
  • Ensure the implementation of all AOD and violence prevention-related compliance requirements including ensuring the offices contribution to the biennial review of AOD programs for the Department of Education.
  • Manage the colleges suicide prevention training program for Emerson community members.
  • Develop other community-wide health and wellness events open to staff faculty and students.
  • Oversee the administration of the National College Health Assessment (NCHA) or other assessment tools including survey planning distribution the sharing of findings implications and recommendations.
  • Represent the Emerson Wellness Center and the Division of Student Affairs by providing active leadership on wellness-related committees that support strategic objectives and collaboration.
  • Lead student leadership trainings for wellness and AOD topics.
  • Serve as the EWC liaison for orientation planning.
  • Advise student organizations as appropriate and as requested.
  • Assist in managing the Wellness and Health promotion budget.
  • Hire train and supervise student employees interns and peer educators.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with neighboring institutions to support a MPH candidate training program.
  • Design peer education curriculum based on harm-reduction models.
  • Maintain and develop skills via participation in continuing education opportunities and membership in the American College Health Association (ACHA) New England Health Educators Network (NEHEN) and ACHA New England College Health Association (NECHA).
  • Collaborate as necessary with other departments to coordinate student support.
  • Work closely with vendors and Facilities to support initiatives such as the Wellness Vending Machine and NARCAN placements on campus.
  • Provide general assistance to the AVP/Director of Emerson Wellness Center as required.
  • Collaborate with Student Affairs Communications Specialist to manage educational content for the Wellness and Health Promotion web page.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform the job.

  • Masters Degree in Public Health Health Promotion Counseling Social Work or related field required
  • Certified Health Specialist (CHES) designation strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in college health promotion prevention or counseling; student affairs administration; community health/mental health required
  • Experience in community needs assessments program planning and assessment; building maintaining and facilitating small group experiences and community-wide campaigns or programs required

  • Ability to develop and edit educational and communication tools (web print social media); peer education facilitation training and assessment; and mental health or educational advocacy and/or counseling.
  • Ability to conduct meetings and impromptu conversations with community members to distribute information and promote dialogue.
  • Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Confident public speaking skills and the ability to present to both large and small groups.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow through on tasks and requests.
  • Ability to utilize social media networks for outreach and communication.
  • Ability to work on a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to community culture and belonging.

  • Good management skills.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and the ability to learn new computer software easily.
  • Good decision-making skills and the ability to use independent judgment.
